MONDAY NIGHT NFL BETTING – BUFFALO BILLS AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (11/23)

When Rex Ryan came aboard as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, it was his vision that he would have a team that would be as tough on defense as it had been in the 2004 season, or even tougher, and that a punishing ground element would be added to help his team chew up the clock and eventually become a contender for the AFC East title. Well, it’s probably going to take a while for this team to challenge the New England Patriots for supremacy in the division, but they have an opportunity to chalk up a big win and ruin New England’s plans for an undefeated season – if those plans in fact existed – when these teams meet up at 8:30 PM ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. BetAnySports customers will be able to wager on this game even after the opening kickoff, as they challenge the NFL betting lines in real time through the magic of Live Betting Extra.

Buffalo started off the season ambitiously enough, with a 27-14 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, in which they more or less stopped Andrew Luck cold. But they came back to reality the next week, as Tom Brady threw for 466 yards against them, with the Patriots getting off to a huge lead before Tyrod Taylor closed the gap and helped the Bills have a chance toward the end. That 40-32 New England victory featured three turnovers by Taylor, and if the Bills can clean that up, they may have a chance against a New England team that will be down a couple of offensive producers due to injury.

In the Monday night NFL betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, with reduced juice, New England is favored:

New England Patriots -7 (-104)

Buffalo Bills +7 (-106)

Over 48 points -102

Under 48 points -108

At 9-0 (5-3-1 ATS), the Patriots are the only undefeated team left in the AFC. As such, they would have the inside track on home-field advantage during the playoffs, as they seek a second straight Super Bowl title. But they will have to move ahead without wide receiver Julian Edelman, who broke his foot and could be out for the rest of the regular season, if not longer. Running back Dion Lewis, who was a very pleasant surprise for this team with his ability to run from scrimmage and catch passes out of the backfield, is already out for the season.

One of the things that BetAnySports patrons should definitely be on the lookout for from the Bills is a heavy dose of the ground game, which Buffalo is most definitely in a position to execute; perhaps better than at any time during the 2015 season. Shady McCoy got off to a slow start because of hamstring problems, but he is hitting his stride, with 224 yards rushing over his last two games. And Ryan has to be absolutely pleased with what he has gotten out of Karlos Williams, the rookie out of Florida State who is very explosive, with an average of 6.2 yards per carry and five touchdowns. Between these guys, they can put a lot of pressure on the New England defensive front.

It should be noted that the Patriots have 30 sacks, which ranks them second in the NFL, but they are also missing Jamie Collins for a third straight game due to illness. Collins is an extremely active and physical linebacker, and his absence certainly affects the way New England will be able to defend the Bills’ running game.
