MIAMI DOLPHINS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 9/11/16 NFL PICK & ODDS

The Miami Dolphins have swum around in mediocrity for quite a while now. But they have made the change to one of the latest “gurus” out there and hope to change their fortunes as they attempt to become a contender in the AFC East. On the agenda in the opener is a date with the Seattle Seahawks, which is scheduled to get underway at 4:05 PM ET at CenturyLink Field. Remember that if you are a BetAnySports customer, you do NOT have to stop your wagering at the opening whistle – you can keep going and going with the fantastic new feature of Live Betting Ultra.

The Dolphins had two different coaches last season; Joe Philbin got fired and gave way to Dan Johnson, who got some life out of his troops with his tough-guy approach, but eventually fizzled out. Each of these coaches had something in common: they did not trust Ryan Tannehill with the duties of calling audibles (changes in the play) at the line of scrimmage. Generally this is not a good sign. But Adam Gase, who worked with Peyton Manning in Denver and then guided Jay Cutler to his highest quarterback rating ever in Chicago, and is now the head coach in Miami, has given Tannehill that responsibility.

And that is going to be a challenge for the fifth-year QB out of Texas A&M, since “The Link” is one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, enough that it is notorious for causing delay of game penalties on visiting sides.

In the NFL odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Seahawks are big favorites:

Miami Dolphins +10.5

Seattle Seahawks -10.5

Over 44 points -110

Under 44 points -110

Miami was a busy team in the off-season. The Dolphins replaced Olivier Vernon, the defensive end who was lost to free agency, with Mario Williams, who was not on the same page with Rex Ryan in Buffalo. They got rid of Brent Grimes (and hopefully his pain-in-the-ass wife) and will be taking a chance on Arian Foster, the running back who is one of the league’s standouts – when he is healthy, that is. And they like to think they have really strengthened their offensive line, by drafting Laremy Tunsil in the first round and placing him at guard, alongside Pro Bowl left tackle Branden Albert. Tannehill needs something to help him stay out of trouble; even though he has thrown for over 4000 yards each of the last two seasons, he was sacked 45 times last year, and there is still a question as to whether he can process things in his head quickly enough. The Seattle defense, which allowed fewer points than anyone in the league, can make you pay for things like that.

BetAnySports patrons know how fearsome the Seahawks are on the stop unit; they will get a pass rush going with four people and devote everything else to coverage. The “Legion of Doom” is still intact, and this season they have bone-crushing safety Kam Chancellor from the start.

But the ‘hawks will face the challenge of moving the ball consistently without Marshawn Lynch,.he of “Beast Mode,” who has retired. When he was injured last season, Thomas Rawls, an undrafted rookie, picked up the slack nicely by rushing for 5.6 yards a carry, the best figure among everybody with at least 800 yards. But Rawls went out with a broken ankle, and they took it easy on him in training camp. And Jimmy Graham, the All-Pro tight end, is coming off knee surgery but should be ready to go for this game. One of the more interesting stories for the coming season is whether Russell Wilson (34 TD’s, 8 INT’s) can develop some real rapport with Graham, who had only 605 yards in receptions last season.
