Matchup: Atlanta Hawks vs. Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks will go head-to-head in the NBA Play-In’s only single game elimination matchup. The Bulls are 9th and the Hawks are 10th, which means the winner will move on to compete for the 8th seed, while the loser’s season will end. The Bulls get home court advantage as the higher seed, which means the Hawks have their work cut out for them as road dogs. The Bulls took the season series 2-1 over Atlanta, but in their most recent trip to Chicago the Hawks beat the Bulls 113-101. There are many factors to consider, and in a high-stakes game such as this one, predictions are never easy.

Hawks vs. Bulls Best Player Props

DeMar DeRozan; Under 29.5 points (-108)

DeRozan is the Bulls leading scorer, averaging 24.0 points per game, but he scored 30+ points in just 20% of his games this season. The Hawks have a bottom-tier defense but in a win-or-go-home matchup teams tend to tighten things up defensively. The 34-year old DeRozan will be expected to do most of the heavy lifting, and Atlanta knows it, so I guarantee the Hawks will pay extra attention to DeMar. DeRozan will have a good game, but not in the realm of a 30-point performance.

Trae Young; Over 2.5 Threes (-155)

Trae Young knows the Hawks don’t stand a chance if he doesn’t play well, but the 25-year old All-Star also knows how to come up big in clutch moments. Young averaged 3.2 3PM (37.2%) and with the green light to shoot as many deep balls as he wants, it’s safe to assume he’ll have plenty of opportunities to go over 2.5 3PM.

Hawks vs. Bulls Prediction

I’m going with the upset in this and taking the Atlanta Hawks over the Chicago Bulls. The Hawks have struggled at times this season, but they’ve also been one of the most explosive offensive teams in the NBA. The Bulls middling offense can’t keep up with Atlanta, and the Hawks high-flyers will soar over Chicago on their way to the next round of the play-in. Home court advantage doesn’t benefit Chicago, nor does the fact that they’re favored, as the Bulls were a meager 11-11 as home favorites. The Hawks starting lineup is finally back to full strength, and the combination of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray will be too much for the Bulls to handle.

Hawks vs. Bulls predictions:

  • Moneyline Pick:

If you take the Pelicans Moneyline (-155): You risk $155 to win $100, for a total payout of $255, if the Pelicans win straight up.

  • ATS Pick:

If you take the Pelicans to Cover the -3.5 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Pelicans win the game by 4 points or more.

  • O/U Pick:

If you take the Under on 229 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Hawks and Bulls  combine for less than 229 points.
