Ok, let’s get to our Georgia vs Tennessee predictions.

While there is controversy every week when the College Football Playoff rankings come out with the talking heads debating on TV who should be in the Top 4, the one thing nobody is arguing is who the No. 1 team in the country should be.

That’s because the 9-0 Georgia Bulldogs have pulled away from the pack and there really isn’t a close second team right now. With another win today, Georgia will go undefeated in Southeastern Conference play for the first time since 1982. The team has already secured its fourth SEC East title in the past five seasons and has punched a ticket to the SEC title game on Dec. 4.

Today, they take to the road to take on a Tennessee team that they have beaten by a combined score of 84-14 the last two times they faced off in Knoxville. The Vols got a big win last week when they upset Kentucky, improving to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in SEC Play.

The big story for Georgia this year has been the defense, which has allowed just five touchdowns all season, and is holding opponents to just 6.6 points per game. What impresses me the most about this defense is that even when the game is out of hand — as has been often this season — the Dawgs defense is dialed in on not letting the opponent score points. It doesn’t matter if it’s scoreless or Georgia is ahead by 30 points in the final minutes. They play with the same intensity.

As for the offense, it has become apparent to me over the last few weeks that head coach Kirby Smart is content with just winning games since he doesn’t have to win by margin. Last week against Missouri he had two chances to go for it on 4th down deep in Missouri territory and opted for the field goal, which is not something he would have done earlier in the season.

Put it all together and you can see why Georgia has gone under the total in their last five games. In fact, over the last three weeks their games have gone under the closing total by an average of more than 10 points per game.

Let’s ride that trend today and play under 56 points in the Tennessee vs Georgia game and look for the Dawgs to shut down the Vols on defense and on offense just do what they need to in order to win the game and improve to 10-0.
