UEFA Europa League Final: Sevilla FC vs. AS Roma Prediction and Betting Tips

Sam Batz

UEFA sevilla vs roma

Most of the European soccer leagues played their final matchday on Sunday, and while most teams began to wind down and prepare for the offseason, two teams still have one more game to play. Sevilla FC and AS Roma are this year’s Europa League finalists, and will play on Wednesday, May 31st in Budapest, Hungary’s Puskás Aréna to determine the champion. The Europa League is a relatively new tournament in the world of soccer, which holds some tournaments that began in the 1800’s. UEFA’s Europa League began in 1971, and in the 52nd final, we will see Serie A’s Roma versus LaLiga’s Sevilla. Roma ended in 6th place in Italy’s Serie A, collecting 60 points and clinching a spot in next year’s Europa League tournament. Sevilla on the other hand finished 11th in Spain’s LaLiga with 49 points and will not be in the Europa League next season, and are looking to make their mark while they have the chance.

LaLiga (Spain): Sevilla FC(-114)

LaLiga’s Sevilla FC, and champions of UEFA, are back in the Europa League final for a record-setting 7th appearance. Sevilla leads all clubs with 6 Europa League titles, and have miraculously won the competition every time they have reached the final. Sevilla have won 6 major European titles to date, each one coming in UEFA’s Europa League, and with a win on Wednesday, Sevilla would join a pantheon of European Clubs who have 7 or more major trophies (Real Madrid (16), Barcelona (12), Milan (9), Liverpool (9), and Bayern Munich (8)). Sevilla’s Europa League stats are commendable, scoring 13 goals and conceding 7. Youssef En-Nesyri leads Sevilla with 4 Europa League goals in 7 starts, and is priced at +175 to score in the final.

Serie A (Italy): AS Roma (-110)

Serie A’s AS Roma is making their second ever Europa League finals appearance. Roma lost to Inter Milan in 1991, and have not seen a final since. 32-years later, Roma is back to try and claim Italy’s 10th Europa League title. Roma secured their spot in the final after beating Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 on aggregate in the semifinal, and have scored 20 goals and conceded 10 during the entirety of the tournament. Roma loves to sit back and invite pressure, and then counterattack on the break with their speedy forwards. Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paulo Dybala have each scored 4 goals for Roma in the Europa League, with Pellegrini priced at +400, and Dybala at +250, to score in the final.

Sevilla vs. Roma: Europa League Final Prediction

In what should be an extremely close game, take Roma to win the Europa League final. It’s a tough game to call, but I am going with the Italian side AS Roma to win their first ever Europa League title. The odds have Sevilla and Roma neck-and-neck, as it seems even the sportsbooks think this final will be too close to call. 2020 was the last time these two met in a European competition, with Sevilla winning 2-0 on their way to winning the Europa League title that year. Roma gets a shot at redemption on Wednesday but will need to overcome Sevilla’s high-octane attack and Spanish-style of soccer, where they keep possession by making many short passes.

Roma often invites pressure, and against a team like Sevilla, their defenders and goalkeeper are going to be busy all day. But AS Roma will handle themselves nicely and use their incredible counter attacking skills to open things up for their wickedly quick forward, Tammy Abraham. FiveThirtyEight, like most predictors, are calling a tightly contested game, but have Roma as a slight favorite. The Italian side has scored more goals (20) than Sevilla (13) in the competition, and I think they will score more in the final as well. I predict that AS Roma of Serie A will win their first Europa League title on Wednesday.

Prediction: AS Roma Moneyline (-110) by the Over (1.5)
