Champions League Final: Manchester City vs. Inter Milan Analysis, Prediction, and Betting Tips
Sam Batz
The 2023 Champions League Final between Manchester City F.C. and Inter Milan will kick off Saturday, June 10th in Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium (3:00 PM EST, CBS/Paramount+). The UEFA Champions League is the top tournament in European soccer, and the winner is considered the best team in all of Europe. Real Madrid are the current champions, and the Spanish side also holds the record for the most Champions League titles (14). Manchester City, in spite of the domestic success has never won the Champions League, while Inter Milan has won the competition 3 times, most recently in 2010. Saturday marks the first ever meeting between Man City and Inter, but Manchester is heavily favored to lift the cup (-550), but if Inter wins, it could be the biggest upset in Champions League history.
Manchester City F.C. (-550)
Manchester City F.C. has dominated the Premier League over the past 6 seasons, but England’s top club has never won the Champions League, the most coveted trophy in Europe. Man City is trying to complete the treble, which hasn’t been done since 1999 by Manchester United, and consists of winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. City has checked two of those boxes, Premier League and FA Cup, and now sit on the precipice of history.
The pressure is high, but this Man City team might be the best side we’ve ever seen play soccer. They scored 150 goals across all competitions, and Saturday’s Final will be City’s 60th match of the season across all competitions. Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland leads Man City with 52 goals in 51 appearances this season, and leads the Champions League with 12 goals on 25 attempts on target. Inter has a great defense, but Manchester City have a stellar midfield, and with Haaland leading the attack, it would be a huge let down if City loses the Champions League Final.
Inter Milan (+300)
Inter Milan is facing an absolute juggernaut on Saturday in the Champions League Final, but the Italian side will be hopeful they can get the job done. Historically, Inter has much more experience than Man City in major European finals, and will use that experience against their opponents. In their 11th major European final, the third-most of any Italian side, Inter are not expected to win, but are expected to put up a decent fight. They have scored 19 goals and conceded 10 over the course of the season long tournament, and went 7-3-2 in their 12 matches.
Inter is priced at +300 to lift the cup, and are priced at +550 to win after 90 minutes, making them a severe underdog against Man City. Inter’s only real hope is to win in a penalty shootout, but that means keeping up with City for 120 minutes, which isn’t likely. Edin Dzeko leads Inter in the Champions League with 4 goals, followed by Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez who each scored 3. Inter Milan is David facing Goliath, but in a major cup final anything can happen, and Inter will hope the pressure surrounding Manchester City will tear them apart.

Manchester City vs. Inter: Champions League Final Prediction
Take Manchester City to win the game at the end of 90 minutes plus stoppage time. City will win their first ever Champions League title, giving them the right to officially call themselves the best team in Europe, and arguably the world. Man City’s current team has already been praised as the best team of the year, but without the Champions League title, that praise means very little. Inter has a great defense, but Man City’s attack is world class. They will pepper Inter’s goal box with crosses, short passes, and brilliant shots, and one will inevitably see the back of the net.
Man City will likely score more than 1 goal, as they are averaging 2.59 goals per game in the Champions League, and with an average possession percentage of 59.8%, City will see plenty of opportunities. Inter’s goalie, Andre Onana, has been brilliant in the Champions League, and leads all goalies with 45 saves, but against City’s incredible attack, Onana will be the busiest man on the pitch. Manchester’s goalie, Ederson, has only conceded 4 goals in 12 Champions League games, and unless Inter get a lucky break away, Ederson is not expected to be needed much on Saturday. Inter certainly has their back against the wall, and in their first ever meeting, Manchester City will beat Inter Milan in the Champions League Final.
Prediction: Manchester City Match Result (-210)
