Slow Start For The Florida Panthers
Last year, the Florida Panthers were the Stanley Cup playoffs Cinderella story. After knocking out the record breaking Boston Bruins, the Panthers made it all the way to the Finals, but ultimately fell short. Regardless, it was a magnificent season for the overlooked Panthers, but so far, Florida has fallen short of expectations. The Panthers are 1-2 and average 2.67 goals for and 3.67 goals against. Florida opened the season with back-to-back losses, but finally snagged their first win on Monday, beating the New Jersey Devils 4-3.
The Panthers will take on the 2-1 Toronto Maple Leafs in their next matchup, but last season’s Stanley Cup finalists enter as the underdogs. The Maple Leafs are averaging 4.33 goals for but also 4.33 goals against. Toronto’s defense has been subpar, and despite recording 13 goals in their first two games, the Maple Leafs are coming off a 4-1 loss against the Chicago Blackhawks. Tomorrow’s matchup is Toronto’s first road game and Florida’s first home game. With Florida’s fervent fans cheering them on in their home opener, the Panthers will take this one.
