To settle the score | Saints vs Packers | OSB
Must Win
The New Orleans Saints travel to Wisconsin to play against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on August 19th at 8:00 pm. This will be the second game both of these teams play this preseason. Last year, these teams met in the first game of the regular season and the Packers were discombobulated, losing 38-3. Although they don’t meet again in the regular season, it will be the Packers’ goal to settle the score and hopefully walk away with a win. During preseason, players are still fighting for a position on the final 52-man roster, so expect to see everyone at their best. Caesars Casino & Sportsbook has the match result odds at -160 Green Bay and +140 New Orleans. Additionally, the over/under total points for the game is set at 38.5 with the over and under both being -110. New users will receive a Risk-Free Bet of up to $1500 on their first wager.
The Green Bay Packers lost their first game of the preseason against the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 28-21. This obviously is not how they intended to begin their campaign but they have a promising chance to get a win at home against the Saints this week. In their game against the 49ers, quarterback Jordan Love played the first half. During his time on the field, he threw two touchdowns, and three interceptions, and had a quarterback rating of 66. His poor performance allowed the 49ers to head into the second half with a 20-14 lead. The over/under for that game was set at 33 and already at the end of the first half, the over hit. The Packers, interestingly enough, had more total yards and control of the ball against the 49ers. If they are able to control their turnovers in the game against the Saints, they will win the game. Next week they play against the Chiefs to close out the preseason. It would be in their best interest to end the preseason with two wins as they have an interesting season ahead of them. For this game against the Saints, it is unknown if the starters will play but Jordan Love is expected to take the field.
The New Orleans Saints also lost their first game of the preseason. They played against the Houston Texans and they lost by a final score of 17-13. Their defense gave them multiple opportunities to win the game but the offense wasn’t able to string together any scoring opportunities. The defense had three interceptions and held the Texans to under 300 total yards. Saints quarterback, Andy Dalton, played the opening drive for them and scored a touchdown. After the first drive, Ian Book took over for the remainder of the game. He threw for one interception and got sacked five times. This poor performance gave him a quarterback rating of 62.9. This game was very defensive as there was a total of six turnovers, three by each team. Saints rookie wide receiver, Chris Olave, was able to record his first catch but that was all he provided the team. Like the Packers, it is unknown if their starters will play in this game. It would be in their best interest to play them whether it be for a quarter or a single drive as they would have a record of 0-2 if they lose against the Packers. They play against the Los Angeles Chargers next week and that will be a tough game for them.
I think that Andy Dalton will get more playing time in this game for the Saints. I think they realize that Ian Book will not be someone they can rely on this season, so they will continue to see what Dalton has to offer. With Dalton and Love playing the majority of the game, I think the over for total points will hit. If the starters end up playing, Green Bay will have the advantage as they have a far better quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, compared to the Saints who have Jameis Winston. This game is important for both teams as they can both be 0-2 if they lose.
