NFL PRESEASON ODDS – KANSAS CITY CHIEFS AT LA RAMS 8/20
Well, it was certainly a triumphant return to Tinseltown for the Los Angeles Rams last week, as they couldn’t give up in front of the 89,000 fans they had in attendance at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Down 24-7 at the half against the Dallas Cowboys and their new rookie sensation at quarterback, Dak Prescott, the Rams rallied for three second-half touchdowns behind quarterback Sean Mannion and got some of that good-time feeling from the new hometown crowd. But the fact that a rookie could carve them up like that in the first half has to be of some concern, as they will face a veteran Kansas City Chiefs group in NFL pre-season action that gets underway at 9 PM ET, once again at the Coliseum. BetAnySports can bet thios game even after the opening whistle, as they take advantage of state-of-the-art software provided though Live Betting Ultra.
The Chiefs took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter of their pre-season opener last week against the Seattle Seahawks, but then allowed the Seahawks to get a field goal, touchdown and two-point conversion in the 17-16 loss. That didn’t really discourage Andy Reid very much; the coach looks upon this edition of the Chiefs as his “sharpest” group yet, and he is relatively serious about this one, as he will send his first-team performers out for the entire first half. That includes Alex Smith, who guided the team right down the field for touchdown on their first series last week.
The Rams will give rookie Jared Goff the start. Goff, of course, was the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and the consensus is that he will eventually take over the starting job, although the Rams acquired journeymen Case Keenum to hold onto the position while Goff serves out his apprenticeship.
In the NFL preseason odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the game is all even:
Kansas City Chiefs pick
Los Angeles Rams
Over 38.5 points -110
Under 38.5 points -110
A lot of Chiefs fans are extra curious as to what is going to happen when Nick Foles gets in the game. Foles, who experienced a dream season in 2013 with the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing for 27 touchdowns with just two interceptions, was the starting quarterback, at least most of the time, for the Rams last season, and the results were not awe-inspiring, as he threw just seven touchdown passes with 10 interceptions. The Rams could have elected to keep him around as the “seat-warmer” as Goff got his legs under him, but they decided to release him instead. Now he has reunited with Reid, who was his first NFL coach with the Eagles. Undoubtedly, Foles would like to prove something against his former team.
BetAnySports patrons will get a look at Todd Gurley, last year’s top rookie, who will play a series or two for the Rams in the backfield. It is also likely that they’ll see both Keenum and Mannion at the quarterback spot. They will have some questions to answer on the defensive end, but this time it’s probably a different challenge. While Dallas burned them through the air last week, Kansas City likes to move the football on the ground. Last week they averaged 4.7 yards per carry against the Seahawks.
Los Angeles coach Jeff Fisher, who has a 27-36-1 record in his four seasons with the franchise, has really not placed an emphasis on winning pre-season games, going just 2-10 ATS in his last dozen exhibition encounters. It would appear as if Kansas City has a little higher level of motivation for this game, although no one on that Rams team wants to disappoint a crowd – likely a sizable one – that has waited so long for the NFL to come back.
