Ok, let’s get to our Kansas City Chiefs vs Cincinnati Bengals Expert Predictions.
The Chiefs are hosting their fourth straight AFC Championship, something that has never happened in NFL history, and they’ll also be looking to make their third Super Bowl in a row as the upstart Cincinnati Bengals come to town.
KC comes in off a wild overtime win over Buffalo at home last week in the Divisional Round. The Chiefs have now won three games in a row and 11 of their last 12 overall, and ironically, the one loss during that stretch came back on January 2 against the Bengals.
Speaking of Cinci, the team surprised everyone by winning the AFC Central division and now after beating Las Vegas and Number 1-seeded Tennessee, the Bengals have a chance to return to their first Super Bowl since 1989 when they lost to the 49ers.
The total in the first meeting between these two teams was 51 and the game went flying over as the Bengals stormed back from a 21-7 first-half deficit and prevailed 34-31. The total in Sunday’s rematch opened at 51 points and was immediately bet all the way up to 54.5 and, as scary as it sounds, we are going to be betting the under in this game.
The whole week, every football fan in America has been talking about the incredible shootout between the Bills and Chiefs last week, but what nobody is mentioning is that if the Bills didn’t convert a miracle 4th-and-13 to score a touchdown with just over two minutes to play, that game would have ended with KC winning 26-21 and it would have gone way under the total of 54.
For the majority of that game the Chiefs were being very methodical on offense as QB Patrick Mahomes was dinking and dunking his way down the field. In the game they had four possessions of seven plays or more as the Buffalo defense was keeping everything in front of it and making a conscious effort to not give up the big play and we expect Cinci to use a similar strategy, so we may see some more long drives for the Chiefs.
As for the Bengals offense, they do not want to get in another shootout with KC in this game, despite getting the win in that manner back on January 2. The Bengals offensive line is in shambles and allowed 9 sacks in last week’s win over KC so the thought of Joe Burrow dropping back to pass 40 times or more is not something Cinci wants to do, unless they fall way behind. The Bengals won their first two playoff games in low-scoring games and that’s the type of game they prefer. The team is 5-2 to the under in its last seven games and they have also gone under in four of their last five games when listed as the underdog.
So for our AFC Championship best bet, let’s be contrarian and go under the huge total of 54.5 points.
