Buffalo Bills Remain The Post-Draft Super Bowl Favorites

Following the NFL Draft, the Bills are still the favorites in 2022

Buffalo Bills

Coming off a 2021 season which ended in heartbreaking fashion, the Buffalo Bills are a popular pick to win the Super Bowl in 2022, and their Vegas odds reflect that.  A year after having their season end due to an epic late-game collapse after taking a three-point lead with 13 seconds left against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills opened as the Super Bowl favorites and remained as such following the NFL Draft.

The Bills current Super Bowl odds sit at +600, placing them ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+700), Green Bay Packers (+1000), Chiefs (+1000), and reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams (+1100), who round out the top five teams.  The Bills are also the favorite to win the AFC, with +300 odds, followed by the Chiefs who sit at +600.  As far as their own division, the AFC East, the Bills are heavy favorites, as their odds of winning the division are -225 and their over/under win total is 11.5 wins.  The Miami Dolphins are second in the AFC East in both categories but are well off the Bills pace with +450 odds to win the division and an over/under win total of 9 wins.

It is easy to see why the Bills are a popular pick going into 2022 after they added pass-rusher Von Miller to the #1 ranked defense in terms of yards and points in 2021.  Combine this with superstar quarterback Josh Allen, who has led the team to a top five offense in back-to-back seasons and enters 2022 as the MVP favorite with +700 odds, and on paper, the Bills have the ability to compete with anyone.

Allen has put up two consecutive great seasons, and many believe that this is the year he can finally get the Bills to the Super Bowl.  Going through a Chiefs team that has eliminated them in both of those years will be no small task, but the subtraction of Tyreek Hill has many wondering if the Chiefs offense will have the same explosiveness.  It may not matter if the Bills continue to show improvement, as they weren’t very far off from the Chiefs a year ago.

While it’s often rare to see teams that haven’t won, or even participated in, the Super Bowl ranked as the favorite, Allen’s ability as an elite quarterback combined with a top ranked defense makes it no surprise why many are big on the Bills entering the season.  Although the AFC East was competitive a year ago, with three teams finishing above .500, the Bills are the clear divisional favorite.

With tough divisional battles expected to take place in the AFC West and AFC North, where all four teams can contend for a playoff spot, the Bills could end up with a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.  This would surely be welcomed after losing on the road in the playoffs in three straight seasons, two of those losses coming in Kansas City.  Buffalo isn’t a place many teams want to travel to in the winter, and that could play a key role in helping the Bills reach their first Super Bowl since losing four straight to begin the 1990s.
