The NFL playoffs continue with a must-watch matchup between the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship. The Lions are competing for a spot in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1991, and if they win, it’ll be Detroit’s first ever Super Bowl appearance. The 49ers on the other hand have lost back-to-back Conference Championships over the last 2 seasons, and haven’t won the Super Bowl since 1994. San Francisco has home field advantage and enters the contest as 7.0 point favorites. The Lions won’t have their fervent fans cheering them on in this one, but Detroit went 7-2 ATS on the road during the regular season, suggesting this will be a closely contested Conference Championship.

Lions vs. 49ers: Player Prop
Jared Goff, Lions QB; Prop Bet: O/U 262.5 passing yards
Prediction: Under (-115)
Goff will need to have the game of his life in order for the Lions to advance, but against a strong 49ers defense, I’m not certain Goff can get it done. During the regular season, the Niners were tied for the most interceptions (22), and they were a top-5 defense against the pass. The Lions averaged 27.1 points per game behind Goff’s 269.1 passing yard average, but the Niners allowed just 17.5 points per game, the 3rd-fewest in the NFL. San Francisco held Jordan Love to 194 passing yards last week, and while Detroit’s offense is certainly better than the Packers, Jared Goff will still struggle to find his receivers down field. Goff has played extremely well up to this point, completing 74.3% of his passes for 282.0 yards per game in the playoffs, but he faces the toughest test of his season against a suffocating Niners defense, so I’m taking the Under on Goff’s 262.5 passing yard prop.
Lions vs. 49ers Game Predictions
A Lions win would be a great story, but the Niners are too good to squander another shot at the Super Bowl, so I’m taking the San Francisco 49ers to beat Detroit in the NFC Championship. If you look at the Niners depth chart, you’ll see All-Prop talent at nearly every level, starting with QB Brock Purdy. Purdy recorded 4,280 passing yards (5th), 31 touchdowns (3rd), and ended the season with the best QBR in the NFL (72.8). Purdy was solid all season, but the real hero on the 49ers is RB Christian McCaffrey, who led the NFL in rushing yards (1,459) and was tied for the most touchdowns from a non-QB (21). McCaffrey recorded 128 total yards and 2 touchdowns last week, and will once again be the focal point of San Frans potent offense.
The Detroit Lions have certainly earned their spot in the NFC Championship, but they’ll be hard pressed to beat the Niners. While the Lions offense has been cooking, their defense has looked shaky in the postseason, allowing 23.0 points and over 400 yards per game. That’s not going to fly against a high-powered offense like San Francisco, and while Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jahmyr Gibbs will do their best to keep the Lions in the game, Detroit’s defense won’t do them any favors. It won’t be a blowout, but the Niners will handle their business and get back to the Super Bowl for a shot at their 6th championship title.
