Ok, let’s get to our Davidson vs Michigan State prediction.
The Michigan State Spartans began the season 14-2 and were considered one of the top teams in college basketball, but once Big 10 conference play began they struggled and went just 8-10 in their final 18 games to finish 22-12 and earn the Number 7 seed in the West Region of the NCAA bracket.
As for Davidson, the team had one of the best seasons in school history, going 27-6 and winning the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title. the A-10 regular-season title this season. Only three of the team’s losses came against teams that failed to make the NCAA Tournament, and one of those teams, Dayton, was one of the first four not to make the Big Dance.
The Wildcats offense is prolific, averaging 75.6 points per game, thanks to some deadly shooting from 3-point range, where they rank 8th best in the nation.
The bottom line here is that if Michigan State wasn’t a perennial national title contender and if their coach wasn’t one of the most recognizable faces in college basketball, Davidson would not be the underdog here today. From a pure match-up standpoint, we have Davidson rated much higher than the Spartans and think there is a lot of value in grabbing the points tonight, especially when you consider the Wildcats were 5-2 against the spread as an underdog.
And while Spartans head coach Tom Izzo will get much of the attention here, don’t forget that Davidson head coach Bob McKillop has been at his post just as long as Izzo and has proven he can get the job time when given time to prepare, as seen by his 11-4 record against the spread in games where his team had four or more days off before tipoff.
So, for our Davidson vs Michigan State NCAA Tournament prediction let’s take Davidson plus the points.
