Two teams that were highly ranked for the entire college basketball season square off tonight with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
Kansas comes into tonight’s game with a flashy 30-6 record and a Number 1 seed as they make their 32nd Sweet 16 appearance in school history.
The Jayhawks are truly one of the blue bloods of the sport, but that reputation can sometimes make them overvalued and we think that’s the case tonight.
Our power ratings show these two teams much closer than being 7.5 points apart on a neutral court. The Friars are a 27-win team. They have one of the most experienced rosters in the nation with juniors and seniors getting the large majority of minutes and they have an underrated head coach in Ed Cooley, who was brilliant in game-planning against South Dakota State and Richmond in the first two rounds.
Providence is also 8-1 against the spread as an underdog this season and 19-7 ATS when catching points dating back the last two-plus seasons. They love to play in close games, so if this one goes down the wire the Friars are not going to wilt under pressure.
