This Wednesday marks the 239th Battle of Los Angeles. Of course, the “Battle of LA” was not the name of this rivalry until 1984 when the Clippers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles, but I digress. Historically the Lakers have dominated the series, posting a 152-86 record over the Clippers, but from 2020 to 2023, the Clippers went on an 11-game winning streak. That streak speaks to the turning of the tide in this series, as the Clippers have become one of the best teams in the NBA, while the Lakers continue to fade into obscurity. The Lakers may lead the current series 2-1, but the Clipper are the better team.
Lakers vs. Clippers Game Predictions
Take the LA Clippers to win the game and cover the spread. The Clips will be short-handed, as All-Star forward Paul George is out with a knee injury, but the Clippers are 3-1 without PG and they still have a laundry list of talent on their roster. The Lakers Anthony Davis is dealing with an illness, and while he is probable to play, AD may not be 100%, which would seriously hurt the Lakers.
Lebron James will lead the Lakers as he has all season, but if James falters, the Lakers are done. The Clippers on the other hand have several players that could take up the mantle as leader, which is why the Clips have been so successful this season. The Clippers don’t rely on 1 or 2 players, but instead play brilliant team basketball. It’s not going to be a blowout, as this is as much a home game for the Lakers as it is the Clippers, but by the time the final buzzers sounds, the Clippers will have won the game.
