Matchup: Sacramento Kings vs. Denver Nuggets

The NBA season carries on this Wednesday with a Western Conference matchup between the Sacramento Kings and the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets are of course the NBA’s reigning champions, yet in all their esteem Denver is winless against the Kings, posting an 0-3 record against Sacramento this season. However, regardless of their struggles against the Kings, the Nuggets remain the favorite in Wednesday’s matchup. The Kings are 7th in the West, 5.5 games behind the Nuggets, while Denver is 3rd in the West, 1.5 games out of first place. Sacramento will be looking to sweep the Nuggets, but the Kings will need to overcome the odds once again against the defending champs on their home court.

Kings vs. Nuggets History

The Kings versus the Nuggets series began 48 years ago in 1976, back when the Kings were in Kansas City. They moved to Sacramento near the end of 1985, where the Kings have reigned ever since. The Nuggets on the other hand, who were founded in 1967, have always been in Denver, and this Wednesday will mark their 199th regular season meeting with the Kings. Denver leads the series with a 101-97 record against the Kings, but as I mentioned above, Sacramento is on a 3-game win streak over the Nuggets, winning every matchup of the current season.

Kings vs. Nuggets Game Predictions

Despite the Kings success against the current NBA champions, I’m going with the Denver Nuggets in this one. Denver is on a 3-game win streak, building momentum as we ramp up to the playoffs. The Nuggets are also incredibly tough to beat at home, posting an 81.5% win-rate in Ball Arena. Yes, the Kings beat Denver at home 102-98 in their most recent matchup, but the Nuggets were without Jamal Murray, a player Denver’s head coach Michael Malone says is the key to their success. With Murray back and home court advantage on their side, Denver will avoid their 4th-straight loss to the Sacramento Kings.

However, while I like Denever’s moneyline, I also like the Kings to cover. Sweeping the defending champs would be a tremendous accomplishment, and I guarantee the Kings will be fired up for this one. Beating Denver once at home is not easy, but twice is nearly impossible, which is why I’m taking Denver to win, but Sacramento will keep it close. Both sides are at full strength for this one, as both the Nuggets and Kings best players are expected to play, fueling the fire of this highly anticipated matchup.

In summary, here are my picks for the Kings vs. Nuggets Wednesday night matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: Denver Nuggets (-250)

If you take the Nuggets Moneyline (-250): You risk $250 to win $100, for a total payout of $350, if the Nuggets win straight up.

  • ATS Pick: Sacramento Kings (+6.5)

If you take the Kings to Cover the +6.5 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Kings win the game, or lose by less than 7 points.

  • O/U Pick: Over (230.5)

If you take the Over on 230.5 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Kings and Nuggets combine for More than 230 points.
