Matchup: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics
We have a classic Eastern Conference matchup slated for Tuesday, as the Philadelphia 76ers prepare to take on the Boston Celtics. The Sixers continue to slide down the standings without their talisman Joel Embiid on the floor, while the Celtics have been the top-team in the NBA for a majority of the season. Boston is the only team with over 40 wins on the season, putting the Celtics 12-games up on the Sixers. Winning 9 of their last 10, including an 8-game win streak, Boston is red-hot. Philly on the other hand is ice-cold, winning just 3 of their last 10, and posting a lowly 30% win-rate without Embiid.
If both teams were at full strength, this would be a compelling matchup, but with the state of the Sixers in disarray, Boston is looking strong. Below you’ll find all of our picks for the 76ers vs. Celtics upcoming game, including stats, scores, and betting advice. 76ers vs. Celtics History
The Philadelphia 76ers versus the Boston Celtics is a matchup that stretches all the way back to 1949. Back then, the Sixers were known as the Syracuse Nationals, but the Celtics have been in Boston since their founding in 1946. The Syracuse Nationals became the Philadelphia 76ers in 1963, but from 1949 to 2024, the Sixers and Celtics have played a total of 466 regular season games. This Tuesday will mark the 467th all-time meeting in this historic rivalry, and unfortunately for Philadelphia, Boston, who has a 269-197 record against the Sixers, will likely increase their lead.
76ers vs. Celtics Game Predictions
The Sixers are 1-2 against the Celtics this season, but without the NBA’s reigning MVP, Philly doesn’t have much of a chance against Boston. The Celtics are cruising, recording 8-straight wins, the longest current streak in the NBA, while averaging 124.8 points per game. The Sixers went 3-7 in their last 10, and averaged less than 110 points per game (109.2). It’s been tough sledding for the Sixers ever since Joel Embiid went down, and I don’t have much hope for Philadelphia in this one. Take the Celtics to win the game by a large margin.
If the game was in Philly I’d look at the game in a different light, but since the game is in Boston, we almost have to take the Celtics. Boston is 26-3 (win-rate: 89.7%) at home, the best home record in the NBA, averaging a +13.7 point differential. That means Boston is not only winning at home, they are destroying opponents with double-digit wins on a regular basis. The Celtics are helped along by three players: Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis, all of whom are averaging over 20 points a game. Since the absence of Embiid, point guard Tyrese Maxey has led the Sixers, averaging 25.8 per game, but with Maxey as their only consistent scorer, the 76ers will struggle to keep up with the Celitcs.
In summary, here are my picks for the 76ers vs. Celtics Tuesday night matchup:
- Moneyline Pick: Boston Celtics (-750)
If you take the Celtics Moneyline (-750): You risk $750 to win $100, for a total payout of $850, if the Celtics win straight up.
- ATS Pick: Boston Celtics (-12)
If you take the Celtics to Cover the -12 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Celtics win the game by at least 12 points.
- O/U Pick: Over (228.5)
If you take the Over on 228.5 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Sixers and Celtics combine for more than 228 points.
