Matchup: New Orleans Pelicans vs. Phoenix Suns

NBA Sunday has a can’t miss matchup on the schedule, as the Phoenix Suns prepare to host the New Orleans Pelicans. Separated by just 1-game in the West, the Suns and Pelicans are in the fight for the postseason lives. As it currently stands, the Suns are 6th and the Pels are 7th. A win for Phoenix will give them a 2-game cushion, while a win for New Orleans will pull them neck-and-neck with Phoenix. This matchup will certainly feel like a playoff game, because in everything but the title, it is.

Neither the Suns nor the Pelicans can afford to lose this game, but unfortunately for New Orleans they are short staffed, while the Suns are close to full strength. The odds are pending but because of home court advantage, as well as injuries, Phoenix is the presumed favorite. The Suns are also undefeated against the Pelicans, averaging 123.5 points to New Orleans’ 110 points over their two previous meetings, putting Phoenix in a strong position to sweep.

Below you’ll find all of our picks for the Pelicans vs. Suns game, including stats, scores, and advice. We’ll help you navigate the odds and provide helpful betting tips for Sunday’s matchup between the Pelicans and Suns.

Pelicans vs. Suns Matchup History

This Sunday will mark the 75th regular season matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns. It’s the 3rd and final matchup of this season between the two Western Conference rivals, with Phoenix holding a 2-0 record over New Orleans, as the Suns look to sweep the Pels. Phoenix has home court advantage, where they are 25-14 (64.1%) on the season, but the Pelicans have been great on the road, posting a 24-14 (63.2%) away game record. The Suns might still have the edge though, as Phoenix is 4-1 against New Orleans in their last 5 meetings in Phoenix, and with an automatic playoff berth on the line, the Suns won’t hold anything back.

Pelicans vs. Suns Game Predictions

I’m going with the Phoenix Suns over the short handed New Orleans Pelicans. The Suns are red-hot, winning 3-straight and 7 of their last 10, securing them a spot in the Western Conference top-6, for now. The Pelicans on the other hand, have fallen short in recent weeks, winning just 4 of their last 10, including 4-straight losses. The Pels 2nd-highest scorer Brandon Ingram (20.9 pts) remains sidelined with a knee injury, and now New Orleans’ best player, Zion Williamson, is banged up. Williamson is expected to play, but a finger injury could slow him down against the fast-paced Phoenix Suns.

Phoenix beat the Pelicans 124-111 in their last meeting, behind an incredible 52-point performance from Devin Booker, the Suns 2nd-highest scorer. Kevin Durant still leads Phoenix in scoring this season, but the Kevin & Devin combo is generating 54.7 points per game for the Suns, and that’s without 3x All-Star Bradley Beal’s 17.3 points per game. The Pelicans will struggle mighty without their top-two scorers, while Phoenix will continue to thrive. The Suns will sweep the Pelicans, and move one stop close to securing an automatic playoff bid.

In summary, here are my picks for the Pelicans vs. Suns matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: Phoenix Suns (odds pending)
  • ATS Pick: Phoenix Suns (odds pending)
  • O/U Pick: Under (odds pending)
