Matchup: Purdue Boilermakers vs. UConn Huskies

The final game of the college basketball season is finally here, as the Purdue Boilermakers and the UConn Huskies prepare for a head-to-head battle that will determine this year’s champion. UConn is looking to become the first back-to-back champions since the Florida Gators in 2006 & 2007, while Purdue is hoping to win the schools first ever NCAA basketball title. The Boilermakers haven’t seen a final since 1969, and after getting bounced by a 16-seed last year, Purdue entered the tournament with a lot to prove. Conversely, UConn always was, and remains to be, the favorite to win it all.

The Huskies are without a doubt the best team in the country, cutting through the tournament with ease, winning by an average of 25.6 points, and securing a chance to become the 8th program in March Madness history to repeat as champs. It would be an impressive feat if UConn can pull it off, but the tenacious Boilermakers of Purdue stand in their way. Like UConn, Purdue has looked unstoppable, winning by an average of 19.6 points. The Boilermakers and the Huskies were clearly the two-best teams of the tournament, and on Monday night they’ll compete for the right to officially claim the title of best in the nation.

Purdue vs. UConn Game Predictions

Purdue had an incredible run in March Madness, averaging 79.8 points per game while allowing just 60.2 opponent points, but the Boilermakers dream of winning their first ever championship title won’t come true this year. Purdue is without a doubt the 2nd-best team in the nation, but the UConn Huskies remain atop the charts, so I’m going with UConn to secure their second straight National Championship on Monday. The Huskies will beat Purdue by playing their brand of basketball, which involves shutting teams down on defense, and brilliant ball movement on offense.

Over the course of the tournament the Huskies have allowed just 57.3 opponent points per game, averaging 20 assists, with 5 different players averaging double-digit scoring figures. That’s not to say Purdue can’t keep up with UConn, but there’s a reason the Huskies are so tough to beat. Purdue’s Zach Edey, this season’s AP Player of the Year, has carried the Boilermakers through the tournament, averaging a tournament high 28 points and 15.4 rebounds per game, but Edey is Purdue’s only real threat. The 7-foot-4 Center will be a matchup nightmare for UConn downlow, but if the Huskies can contain Purdue’s outside shooters they’ll control the game. Regardless, Monday’s championship will be a March Madness classic, and while Purdue will put together a valiant effort, the UConn Huskies will reign supreme.

  • O/U Pick: Under (145.5)
