This Friday marks the 75th all-time matchup between the LA Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans. They played their first game in 2002, making it a relatively young series. New Orleans leads with a 42-32 record over LA, as the Pelicans have dominated the Clippers in recent years, winning 8 of their last 10 matchups. At home the Pelicans have done very well against the Clippers, winning 67.6% of the games played in New Orleans (25-12), however LA’s only win over the Pelicans this year came on the road in the Smoothie King Center. The Pelicans matchup well with the Clippers, and because of some key injuries and home court advantage, I’m going with New Orleans. LA’s Kawhi Leonard and James Harden are questionable with injuries, while Russell Westbrook remains sidelined after undergoing hand surgery. Those are three key players for the Clippers, and after 2-straight losses LA is feeling the pressure of the looming postseason. The Clippers will also be coming off a game with the Chicago Bulls the night before, and on no rest the Clips are 6-5. The Pelicans aren’t dealing with any major injuries, and get a much needed rest day before facing the Clippers.
The odds are pending, so check back with OSB Sports for the latest, but even if the Pelicans are underdogs, it won’t phase them. New Orleans is 13-12 (52%) as underdogs, and 13-9 (59.1%) as underdogs against the Western Conference. Monitor the injuries on the Clippers side, but if Leonard and Harden don’t play, New Orleans is the right pick here. I’m also taking the under, as the Pelicans and Clippers O/U record this season is 0-3, meaning they’ve hit the under every time they play.
