Matchup: Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

The Western Conference leading Oklahoma City Thunder are gearing up to host the Dallas Mavericks this Thursday. This highly-anticipated matchup will pit two MVP hopefuls against each other, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic prepare to go head-to-head for the 3rd time this season. The series is currently tied 1-1, as the Thunder took the first and the Mavs the second, but both games were in Dallas. Now the Mavs must travel to the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City where the Thunder reign supreme, posting a 78.8% win-rate. Dallas has a lot of momentum though after winning 3-straight, and OKC showed a crack in the armor after a 10-point home loss on Tuesday, so this one could go either way.

Below you’ll find all of our picks for the Mavericks vs. Thunder, including stats, scores, and betting advice. We’ll help you navigate the odds and provide helpful betting tips for Thursday’s matchup between the Mavericks and Thunder.

Mavericks vs. Thunder History

Thursday’s game will mark the 196th all-time meeting between the Thunder and Mavericks. They’ve played 172 regular season games and 23 postseason games. In regards to the regular season matchups, OKC leads the series with an 88-84 record over the Mavericks. Of course the Thunder weren’t always the Thunder, as the series began in 1980 when they were known as the Seattle Supersonics. At the end of the 2007 season, the Supersonics left Seattle and became the Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s always been a relatively even series though, however the Mavs have struggled on the road against the Thunder, posting a 36-51 (41.4%) record in Oklahoma City.

Mavericks vs. Thunder Game Predictions

Take the OKC Thunder over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. SGA and Doncic will get all the attention, but basketball is a team sport, and the Thunder have the better team. OKC has the No. 3 ranked offense and the No. 5 ranked defense, while the Mavericks have the No. 6 ranked offense and the No. 22 ranked defense. Clearly the Thunder are the more well-rounded group, and at home they are even better. OKC averages 122.7 points per game at home, while allowing just 111.2 points per game to their visitors.

Dallas averages 118.1 points per game on the road, but the Mavericks defense has been subpar all season, giving up 118.9 opponent points per game away from home. However, with the combination of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Mavs always have a chance. Dallas’s dynamic duo combines for nearly 60 points per game, which doesn’t always lead to wins, but they keep it close. Dallas covers the spread in 64.5% of their road games, and while I have the Thunder winning, the Mavericks will cover once again. Moreover, in both previous matchups OKC and Dallas went over 245 total points, and I’m expecting another barn burner on Thursday.

In summary, here are my picks for the Mavericks vs. Thunder matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: OKC Thunder (-265)

If you take the Thunder Moneyline (-265): You risk $265 to win $100, for a total payout of $365, if the Thunder win straight up.

  • ATS Pick: Dallas Mavericks (+6.5)

If you take the Mavericks to Cover the +6.5 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Mavericks win the game, or lose by less than 7 points.

  • O/U Pick: Over (242)

If you take the Over on 242 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Mavericks and Thunder combine for more than 242 points.
