Miami Heat at New York Knicks: Conference Semifinal Game 5 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips

By Sam Batz

heat vs knicks

The NBA Playoffs continue on Wednesday, May 10th with the Miami Heat taking on the New York Knicks in the first potential elimination game of the Conference Semifinal (7:30 PM EST, TNT). Miami leads the series 3-1 after beating the Knicks 109-101 on Monday. It’s Miami’s second 3-1 series lead of the postseason, and yet because of their seeding, sportsbooks continue to disrespect the Heat as they enter Game 5 as +4 point underdogs. The Knicks on-going offensive struggles are paralyzing them against Miami, yet New York enters Game 5 at home as -4 point favorites. Don’t sleep on the Heat, who have been ruthless this postseason, and just because the Knicks are facing elimination, that doesn’t mean they will magically start scoring more, because even if they did have a higher gear, New York would have hit it before they were faced with elimination.

The Miami Heat (+4; ML +140)

The Heat are 7-2 in the postseason, which is an outstanding record for an 8 seed. Miami had to trudge through the play-in just for the chance to be in the playoffs, but then they shocked the world in the First Round, beating the heavily favored no. 1 seed Bucks and ending Mike Budenholzer’s career in Milwaukee. Now the Heat, who are up 3-1 on the Knicks, are about to shock the world all over again. When they entered the Conference Semifinals, the Heat were given a 49% chance to win the series, now up 3-1, Miami has a 88% chance to advance to the Conference Finals. If Miami wins Game 5, the series is over and they will advance, while the Knicks will be left to ponder what went wrong.

The New York Knicks (-4; ML -170)

The Knicks are 5-4 in the playoffs and now find themselves in a very precarious position after losing back-to-back games against Miami. New York entered the Conference Semifinals with a 4-1 record after taking down the Cleveland Cavaliers in the First Round. The Knicks have since gone 1-3, and are on the brink of elimination. New York’s offense has been atrocious in the playoffs, averaging just 99.7 points per game and shooting the worst 3-point percentage (28.2%) of any postseason team. Their defense got them this far, but against a Miami Heat team that’s averaging over 115-points per game, the Knicks haven’t been able to keep up, and are now reaping the consequences of their poor shooting.

Heat vs. Knicks: Bold Player Prop

Gabe Vincent (Heat Point Guard): Over 11.5 Points (+100)

Gabe Vincent is averaging 12.7 points per game, but when Jimmy Butler missed time due to an ankle injury, Vincent recorded 21 points and played a leading role on Miami’s offense. Vincent recorded just 8 points in Games 3 and 4 combined, but with Butler questionable once again, it’s Gabe time. Even if Butler plays, he’s obviously banged up, and Miami will need Vincent to have a big game. I predict Gabe Vincent rises to the occasion and goes over 11.5 points in Game 5.

Heat vs. Knicks Game 5 Prediction

Take the Miami Heat to win, but only if Jimmy Butler is able to play. So much rides on Jimmy Butler’s health, and if he can’t go in Game 5, then the Knicks’ chance to win sky-rocket. Butler is averaging 33.5 points per game, and the Heat are 7-1 with him in the starting lineup. Miami was without Butler in Game 2 against New York, which resulted in a Heat loss and a postseason high for the Knicks (111 pts). It’s been reported that Jimmy Butler is preparing to play through the pain in Game 5, which was the same situation in Game 4 when Butler still managed to record 27 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds, but keep a close eye on his status as we approach tip-off.

Prediction: Miami Heat Moneyline (+140)*

*Only if Butler plays
