Matchup: Chicago Bulls vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

The NBA season continues with an Eastern Conference matchup featuring the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The game is on Valentine’s Day, but there’s no love between these two teams. The Cavs and Bulls have a long and contentious history, going back 54 years when they played their first game in 1970. This season the Cavs have the upper hand, as Cleveland is 2nd in the East at 35-17, and Chicago is 9th at 26-28 (10 games behind the Cavs). The Cavs are nearly guaranteed to make the playoffs, while the Bulls are fighting just to stay in the play-in, making this matchup a rather one-sided contest.

Bulls vs. Cavaliers History

This Wednesday marks the 233rd regular season game between the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. Chicago leads the all-time series 132-100, but Cleveland has run the show over the last two seasons, posting a 6-game winning streak against the Bulls. Chicago hasn’t beat Cleveland since March of 2022, and the Bulls will need to overcome the odds in order to snap the Cavs current streak. This season, Cleveland is 2-0 against Chicago, scoring 109 points in both games, while simultaneously holding the Bulls under 100 points. Historically, Chicago has the advantage, but Cleveland has flipped the script in recent years.

Bulls vs. Cavaliers Game Predictions

The Cavaliers will continue their winning streak against the Chicago Bulls on Valentine’s Day.  Take the Cavs against the spread, or Cleveland’s moneyline, either one is a strong bet. The Cavaliers snapped a 9-game winning streak on Monday, losing 121-123 against the 76ers, but Philadelphia had to shoot over 54.5% from the Field and over 40% from Three in order to take down the Cavs. Over their last 20 games, Cleveland is 17-3, making them one of the hottest teams in the NBA. Comparatively, the Bulls were much less consistent, posting an 11-9 record over their last 20.

The Bulls lost Zach LaVine to injury, leaving it up to 34-year old DeMar DeRozan to carry Chicago. Point guard Coby White is having a breakout season for Chicago, but Cleveland’s suffocating defense will keep DeRozan and White under control. The Cavs are led by 5x All-Star Donovan Mitchell, but Cleveland’s emergence as a legitimate title contender is due to their defense. The Cavs are allowing the fewest points per game in the East (109.3 opponent PPG), and in their two previous matchups with Chicago, Cleveland held the Bulls to just 93 points per game. It’ll be another low scoring game, so take the under as well, with the Cavs coming out on top.
