NBA FINALS ODDS – IRVING INJURY MAKES WARRIORS BIG CHOICE

Well, now we will find out what Lebron James can do almost strictly on his own. We are being a little facetious when we say that, but the fact the matter
is that two of the three “superstars” who were part of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ revival this season are out of action

First it was Kevin Love with a shoulder injury, and now it is Kyrie Irving, who hadn’t played in a couple of weeks with his tendinitis in the left knee,
and then suffered what was later determined to be a cracked kneecap, but only after 44 courageous minutes in which he scored 23 points. So if Cleveland is going to win
the NBA title, is going to be almost completely on the back of Lebron, who scored 44 points, his NBA Finals career-high, and took 38 shots, with more to come, for
certain

Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday night at 8 PM ET at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, and in the NBA Finals odds put forth by the folks at BetAnySports the Warriors have a pretty hefty impost to overcome:

Golden State Warriors -8

Cleveland Cavaliers +8

Over 202.5 points -110

Under 202.5 points -110

In retrospect, Irving probably should not have been extended as far as he was. He played 44 minutes in the game, and was all over the floor. Whereas James
had been taking over the role of play maker previously in the playoffs, Irving had six assists to go with seven rebounds, and he seemed to be doing well on the defensive
end. In fact, if not for him, Cleveland would not have had an opportunity to win the game during regulation time. Irving came from behind and blocked Steph Curry’s
attempt at a driving layup with just 24 seconds left on the clock. Then the Cavaliers got the ball, but missed a couple of shots and the game went to overtime.

And as BetAnySports patrons are well aware, that was not a good five-minute session for the Cavs, who
scored only two points. No other team during the shot clock era has ever scored fewer in an overtime period in the NBA Finals. Throughout the game, Golden State’s death
was a problem, as they have people who can defend multiple positions, as well as some big bodies to put upfront. There is some question as to whether Cleveland has that
luxury.

Now observers challenging the NBA Finals odds have to ask themselves how the Cavaliers are going to readjust themselves for the loss of Irving. Whatever
ball distribution they get will probably come through Lebron, who came into this series with more than twice as many assists as any of his teammates during post-season
action. So this will probably place two shooting guards in the backcourt, as the Cavs try to make that a defensive challenge for Golden State. JR Smith and Matthew
Dellavedova will get some minutes in the rotation, and you can probably count on James Jones playing a little as well. Remember that Mike Miller is on the bench, and he
can always come in and hit some three-point shots. So Cleveland has enough to stretch out the defense, if their guys get hot
