Can Mariners Halt Boston?

So maybe Boston hasn’t shown us everything they have. Many people had the Red Sox  written off for this season after they started the season a mere 3 games above the Orioles for last place in the AL East. They’ve now heard those critics and have responded with their longest winning streak of the season with seven wins. But I’m not going to jump on their bandwagon quite yet as I still have this Boston team written off for the year. The first reason is that this 7 game win streak has come against the Cincinnati Reds, the Oakland Athletics three times, and then the Los Angeles Angels three times as well. The Reds and Oakland are both 17+ games under .500, so the Red Sox should have won those, and then the Angels are on a 14 game losing streak, and the Red Sox played them right when their drama with their manager arose. But before those seven wins, the Red Sox had lost to those same Reds 12-0. 

The Mariners aren’t the best team either, but they are much better than the competition the Sox have faced on their winning streak. The Mariners have actually been playing better baseball as of late, going 6-4 in their last 10 games, including taking 2 of three games from the Houston Astros. 

The pitching matchup of Rich Hill (Red Sox) vs Marco Gonzales (Mariners) isn’t a blockbuster matchup, but there the advantage is slightly for Seattle. The Red Sox winning streak will be coming to an end tonight, not because the Mariners will beat Boston, but because Boston will simply beat themselves as they always do.
