The New York Mets are currently 89-54 and are in first place in the NL East. They are currently in an intense race against the Atlanta Braves for the division as the Braves are half a game back from the Mets. The Pirates are coming off a series against the Cincinnati Reds where they won all three games in the series on the road.
Heading into this series, they have played three games against each other and the Mets lead the series 2-1.
