Atlanta Braves at Toronto Blue Jays: Prediction and Betting Tips

By Sam Batz

braves vs blue jays

The MLB season continues on Saturday, May 13th with an excellent matchup between the Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays (3:07 PM EST, MLB.TV). The Braves and Blue Jays have a 3-game series scheduled, and the matchup on the 13th is the 2nd of the series. This series is their first and only meeting of the regular season, but all-time, the Blue Jays are 1 win up on the Braves with a 31-30 record. Toronto will look to extend their series lead, but the Braves enter the matchup with a better record and a hotter streak. Sportsbooks have the Blue Jays favored by -1.5 runs but keep a close eye on the current odds, as they are likely to change, especially if the Braves take the first game of the Series on Friday.

The Atlanta Braves (+1.5; ML +100)

The Atlanta Braves are 25-12 (67.6%) a quarter of the way through the season. They lead the NL East, are at the top of the National League standings, and are 2nd in the MLB (4 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays). At +59, the Braves have the 3rd-best run differential in the league, averaging 5.38 runs and 3.78 runs allowed per game. According to FiveThirtyEight, Atlanta is nearly guaranteed to make the playoffs, and at 16% (+450), the Braves are the favorites to win the World Series this year. Yet despite their superior record and many accolades, Atlanta is the underdog for Saturday’s matchup against the Blue Jays, but the Braves have a good chance to win, meaning it could be a decent payout to take Atlanta if the moneyline stays where it’s at.

The Toronto Blue Jays (-1.5; -120)

The Blue Jays are 21-16 (56.8%) and find themselves in 4th place in the AL East, 5th in the American League, and 7th in the MLB. The Blue Jays have a decent shot to make the playoffs (64% chance) and are projected to end the season with a 90-72 record, but Toronto is in a bit of a slump at the moment. The Jays went 3-7 in their last 10 games and are coming off back-to-back losses against the Philadelphia Phillies. They face a tough opponent in the Atlanta Braves, who could either bury the Blue Jays deeper or give them some much needed confidence with a win against a quality opponent. Toronto is favored to win because they are brilliant at home, winning 75.0% of the time, and they hit the ball very well, averaging 4.8 runs per game this season.
