Rodon Rolls On

The San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies are not two teams we have talked about making the postseason in any capacity, for the vast majority of this season. The Rockies have been a great hitting team but where they have really struggled has been in their bullpen which ranks in the bottom three in the MLB and in their fielding which also ranks in the bottom five. What is the point of putting up 10 runs if you allow 11 to your opponent, a loss is a loss. The Giants have been, as it seems they have been the last couple years, mediocre. There was a point a couple months ago where they went on a large winning streak in which we actually thought that they would be able to make the wildcard I said at that time or in a wildcard spot but they’re inconsistent hitting has let them down. The Giants rank 23rd in team batting average, 25th in team hits, 20th in team slugging percentage and 17th and team on base percentage. They have had a good pitching rotation that has them the 12th best ERA in all of the MLB but just as for the Rockies there’s no point putting up plenty of runs just to allow even more, there’s no point holding an opposite team to three runs if you can only put up two.

This game is coming down to a few simple factors. Although neither of these teams are any good, they are division opponents who have seen plenty of each other and know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. The first factor in tonight‘s game is which team is hotter and that answer is the Colorado Rockies at the moment. The Giants are coming off three straight losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers and have lost six of the last 10 games. The Rockies on the other hand have won three of their last four games as well as seven of their last 10 including impressive oneswins against the Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers. The Giants will be sending out Carlos Rodon who has a 13–8 record and the ERA of 2.84 but as we stated before this is a great Colorado Rockies hitting team who ranks six in team batting average and can handle a good pitcher.
