OAKLAND ATHLETICS AT LOS ANGELES ANGELS – 4/25/17 FREE MLB PICK

The Oakland Athletics have surprised some people in the early going, as they are hovering above the .500 mark and might yet become a contender, at least for wild-card spot. But the Los Angeles Angels, mired in injury problems and struggles in their starting pitching staff, as well as inconsistent hitting, look like they may be non-contenders again for another season, despite having the young man who, in the minds of many, is the best player in baseball. On Tuesday night these teams will meet at 10:05 PM ET at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, and BetAnySports patrons will have the opportunity to place wagers on the game even after begins, as they utilize the cutting-edge software from Live Betting Ultra.

Oakland is currently sporting a 10-9 record, which puts them three games behind the division-leading Houston Astros in the American League West. The Angels are at 9-12, five games off the pace. The Angels are coming off a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, as Jesse Chavez went six strong innings for them.

Chavez had been originally scheduled to start tonight’s game, but was moved up in the rotation, as JC Ramirez will get another start. Ramirez has been a career reliever, making 111 appearances in that role, but since Garrett Richards has gone to the 60-day disabled list, with nerve irritation in his right biceps, Ramirez was pressed into a starting situation. He is currently 2-2 with a 6.46 ERA.

The Athletics will be going with Jesse Hahn (1-1, 3.00 ERA), who is coming off a sterling effort against the Texas Rangers last time out, as he gave up only two hits over six innings. Hahn hopes that he can get through an entire season without injury problems, and he will be sorely needed, because of the tentative situation involving Sonny Gray.

In the baseball betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Angels are the home favorites:

Los Angeles Angels (Ramirez) -133

Oakland Athletics (Hahn) +123

Athletics +1.5 runs -175

Angels -1.5 runs +155

Under 8.5 runs -115

Over 8.5 runs -105

Ramirez has spent most of his career striking out a little less than seven batters per nine innings, but he really appeared to be humming it in his last start, six nights ago, against the Astros, as he fanned nine batters in 5 1/3 innings. But he got no support from his team in the 5-1 defeat. Ramirez, a 6-4, 250-found right-hander, has pitched nine times in his career against Oakland, all in relief, with a 4.76 ERA.

The Angels seem to make better contact at home (.272) than they do on the road, and Albert Pujols, the future Hall of Famer who has 593 career home runs, has a four-game hitting streak going, during which time he has eight hits in 18 at-bats. BetAnySports patrons know that he hits right behind Mike Trout in the lineup, and Trout, the two-time MVP, not only leads the American League in base hits, slugging and OPS, he also has done very well against Hahn in the past, with an on-base percentage of .714.

Ramirez says that he was tipped off about a possible starting role during spring training, where they had him throw a lot of innings. He explained that he felt pretty comfortable doing that, so one could expect that them work more turns he takes, the better off he’ll be. But he’s still in the transition stage, while Hahn, who has given up less than one hit per inning, maybe a little farther along, if he can stay healthy of course.
