The Masters Tournament: Odds, Picks, and Predictions
By Sam Batz
Dates: April 11-14, 2024
Course: Augusta National Golf Course
Purse: $18,000,000
The Masters begins this Thursday. The first golfers tee off at 8:00 AM EST at the iconic Augusta National Golf Course, the location of every Masters tournament since 1934. As of Monday morning there are 89 golfers in the field, but only the top-50 will advance to the weekend. Only the best of the best win at Augusta, and while predicting The Masters isn’t an exact science, there are always hints that lead to educated guesses, and huge payouts. We are here to provide expert insights and advice on the best bets for The Masters championship.
The Masters odds board has big names: Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, and many more. But the last four winners at Augusta National were all first-time champions, and with a field as wide as this one it can be difficult to reign in which golfers actually have a chance at winning the green jacket.
At the start of the golf betting year we saw some long shot winners, from Chris Kirk taking The Sentry with 200-1 odds, to Grayson Murray winning the Sony Open in Hawaii at 350-1. However, this tournament is on a whole other level, as the complexities of the modern masters, from the conditions to the pageantry, create added pressure that only the elites of the game can handle. The Masters is the first major of the year, and a win at Augusta is often a career defining achievement for many professional golfers. The best come out to play, but only one will hoist the iconic trophy of The Masters.
The Masters: Favorites in the Field
Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite at The Masters this year. According to the PGA’s official rankings, Scheffler is the no. 1 golfer in the world. One could say it’s Scheffler vs. the field, which does not come without reason. Scheffler is on fire, coming off wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Player Championship, and a runner-up finish in Houston. We’ll see if he can stay locked-in at The Masters, but in his current form Scheffler looks unbeatable.
Top Masters Pick: Scottie Scheffler (+400)
If Scheffler does win at The Masters, he’d have won three of his last 4 starts, with a runner-up finish squeezed in. There’s a reason that type of historic stretch doesn’t come along often, it’s extremely difficult. There’s an argument to be made that Scheffler will crack under the pressure of The Masters, leaving room for another golfer to take center stage.
Two players that have our attention are Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy. Koepka plays his best golf at major tournaments, recording 18 top-10 and 14 top-5 finishes in 38 career majors. He tied for second behind Rahm at last year’s masters, and as one of the most competitive golfers on tour, Koepka could finally win a green jacket. PGA veteran Rory McIlroy is another great pick this year. 34-year-old McIlroy is making his 16th appearance at The Masters, as well as his 10th attempt at a career grand slam, giving Rory more than enough motivation to be at his best come Thursday.
Best non-Scheffler Pick(s): Brooks Koepka (+1200) & Rory McIlroy (+1000)

The Masters: Bold Predictions
Predicting The Masters is an art, not an exact science. The best golfer in the world could have a bad day, like Rory McIlroy in 2023 who shot a 77 in Round 2 and missed the cut. Or there could be a surprise winner, like Tiger Woods in 2019, who shocked the world with a resurgent victory on golf’s biggest stage. You truly never know what’s going to happen, but that doesn’t mean sports betting enthusiasts should avoid The Masters; on the contrary, The Masters is one of the best sports betting events on the calendar, because the payouts can be substantial.
Here are some of The Masters best bets offering big payouts:
- Phil Mickelson to Win (+15000)
- Mickelson’s odds are egregious. The man has three Masters wins in his career, finished tied for 2nd last year, and has eight top-3 finishes at The Masters. Phil loves Augusta, as it’s a great course for lefties, which he is, and at his current value Mickelson is a great pick. A $10 wager would yield a $1,510 payout, a great value.
- Phil Mickelson to Win (+15000)
- Si Woo Kim to Make Top-10 (+500)
- Kim is a great value at this price, and he doesn’t even have to win. Take him to finish in the Top-10. He ranks 4th on the tour in tee-to-green shots behind only Scheffler, Schauffele, and Matsuyama. Kim has made six straight cuts at Augusta and won’t disappoint this year.
- Tiger Woods to Finish Top-20 after Round 1 (+315)
- If you’re looking to make a bet on Tiger Woods at The Masters, this is the best one out there. Woods’ fitness has come into question, and the hilly terrain of Augusta could have the 5x Masters champion struggling late in the tournament. Woods will be at his freshest in Round 1, and as a veteran of the course he should do well enough to earn a top-20 placement after the first day.
