The Sunflower Showdown

The Kansas State Wildcats will face their biggest rivals this weekend, the Kansas Jayhawks. The rivalry is called “The Sunflower Showdown” and the winner of the matchup gets the Governor’s Cup. The series dates back to 1902 and has been played every year since 1911. Kansas leads the series 64-51 over Kansas State, but this year the Wildcats have the edge. Both teams are 7-3, but Kansas State ranks higher in the CFP rankings at No. 21, while Kansas is at No. 25. It will be another exciting edition of the Sunflower Showdown.

I like Kansas State in this one. The Wildcats are averaging 38.80 points and giving up 18.50 points to their opponents. The Jayhawks on the other hand have a great offense, recording 35.62 points per game, but their defense is atrocious, giving up 35.46 points and 469.4 yards on average. The Wildcats will score on nearly every possession, while the Jayhawks will struggle to find the endzone. Kansas State has given up just 20 total touchdowns this season, while Kansas has allowed 58. On offense these two are evenly matched, but there’s no question that Kansas State has the better defense. The Wildcats will win the Governor’s Cup this year.
