COLLEGE FOOTBALL BETTING — LSU TIGERS AT TEXAS A&M AGGIES

College Football Betting — LSU Tigers at Texas A&M Aggies (11/24)

By Charles Jay

The LSU Tigers were stopped short when they got to the most critical part of the field last Saturday, and it had to be a very heart-breaking experience. But they have to regroup as they stand across the line of scrimmage from the Texas A&M Aggies, a team that has fallen fast in the rankings. This SEC contest is slated to kick off at 7:30 PM ET on Thanksgiving night, and while ESPN is televising it, BetAnySports have the opportunity to place wagers in real time, even after the opening kickoff, using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.

LSU was beaten 16-10 against Florida last week, as were unsuccessful in scoring three different times inside the 10-yard line. That just can’t happen with the kind of weaponry they have. What made it particularly disappointing was that it came on the heels of a dominant 38-10 win over Arkansas, with the only blemish on Ed Orgeron’s mark as “interim” coach, previous to that, being a game where they held Alabama, the #1 team in the country, to ten points. But now they are sitting with a 6-4 record (4-6 against the football pointspread).

The Aggies, under Kevin Sumlin, won their first six games and were actually the #4 team in the initial College Playoff Rankings, which, by definition, had them in contention for a national title. But since then they have lost three of their last five, including an excruciating home defeat to Ole Miss. They also lost quarterback Trevor Knight, the Oklahoma transfer. But guess what? They may now have him back.

Texas A&M is 22nd in both the Associated Press rankings and the Coaches’ poll. LSU managed to hold onto a national ranking, as the Tigers are #25 in the Associated Press poll. Neither of these teams is in the Top 25 of the playoff rankings.

In the college football betting odds posted on this Thanksgiving Day game at BetAnySports, the Bayou Bengals are laying points on the road:

LSU Tigers -7 (-120)
Texas A&M Aggies +7 (+100)

Over 47 points -110
Under 47 points -110

The LSU-Florida game was rescheduled after Hurricane Matthew originally knocked it out in October. But LSU officials insisted on the site of the game being shifted from Gainesville to Baton Rouge, and that did not make the Florida people happy. You could tell as much in the post-game comments by coach Jim McElwain. There was some questionable play-calling for the Tigers, especially on that final unsuccessful drive, when Danny Etling pitched the ball to Derrius Guice, who then did a dive play. It was just not well-executed. And you get the impression that this may have really broken the momentum of the Bayou Bengals, who had shown a lot more enthusiasm since Orgeron took over for Les Miles, who was fired after a loss to Auburn. After all, they could take a lot of positives from a defeat to ‘Bama in which they held the top team in the country (and defending national champions) to a scoreless tie through three quarters.

BetAnySports patrons know that one of the strengths of this team is the combination of Guice in the backfield with Leonard Fournette, who was considered one of the primary candidates for the Heisman Trophy at the season’s outset. But injuries have slowed him just a little; lately he’s been bothered by a bad ankle, and had only 40 yards on the ground against the Gators.

Knight injured his shoulder against Mississippi State on November 5, and Sumlin said that maybe, just maybe, he would back for a bowl game, although he would be out for the rest of the regular season. However, reports from multiple sources seem to indicate that Knight has been cleared by doctors and will be able to start against LSU. The QB has done nothing to refute this, as far as we can see on his Twitter account. Is he being rushed back? Maybe; we just know that Jake Hubenak, who had started a couple of games in Knight’s place, has an injured shoulder himself and was ruled out of Thursday’s game. The Aggies have limited options otherwise, including a true freshman (Nick Starkel) and talented wide receiver Speedy Noil, who played quarterback in high school. Knight has 1911 passing yards and 583 more on the ground.
