Match Predictor (Win-Probability): Seattle Storm (17.6%); Connecticut Sun (82.4%)
The WNBA regular season continues with a cross conference between the East’s Connecticut Sun and the West’s Seattle Storm. It will be the second matchup of the regular season between the Storm and the Sun. Their first game ended 85-79 in favor of Connecticut, who will enter the second matchup with nearly insurmountable odds to win. However, both sides are on a losing streak, and will hope to use this one as a springboard to get the season back on track.
The Seattle Storm (4-12)
The Seattle Storm have only won 4 games out of 16, putting them at 5th place in the Western Conference. Seattle’s downfall has been their defense, which ranks 11th for points against per game (86.0). They’ve now lost three-straight, and are coming off an abysmal performance on Sunday when they lost 81-66 to the New York Liberty. Jewell Loyd, who leads the WNBA in points per game (25.8), has been the only bright spot on an offense averaging the lowest Field Goal percentage in the league (39.6%). Seattle is 3-7 in their last 10 and are not expected to make the playoffs, and are certainly not expected to beat the Sun on Thursday.
The Connecticut Sun (12-5)
Coming in at 12-5 (70.6%), the Connecticut Sun are 2nd in the East and 3rd in the WNBA. They are being given such a high win-probability against the Storm because they take care of the ball and average nearly 84 points while limiting their opponents to under 80 points per game. The Sun began the season at a blistering pace, winning 8 of their first 10 matchups, but are coming off back-to-back losses, where they gave up an average of 95.5 points to the opposition. Granted, the two losses were against the top-2 teams in the league, but Connecticut struggled from the 3-point line in both games, averaging just 30.8% shooting from deep. The Storm rely heavily on their 3-point shooting and it could spell trouble for Connecticut if Seattle is hitting from long range and the Sun continue to struggle from beyond the arch.

Storm vs. Sun: Key Player(s)
Seattle Storm:
- Jewell Loyd: 2015’s first overall pick, Loyd is averaging a WNBA high 25.8 points per game. She also averages 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest. Loyd is undoubtedly Seattle’s only success story of the season.
Connecticut Sun:
- Dewanna Bonner: In her 13th season, Bonner is averaging a team high 17.7 points per game. With Brionna Jones out for the season, the Sun will look to Bonner as the teams top forward.
- Alyssa Thomas: Nearly averaging a triple-double with 14.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, Thomas has been Connecticut’s do-it-all player, and is a vital part of the Sun’s success.
Storm vs. Sun Prediction
Take the heavily favored Connecticut Sun to beat the struggling Seattle Storm. With 4 players averaging double-digit scoring figures, the Sun will dominate on Thursday. Seattle’s Jewell Loyd and Ezi Magbegor combined for 46 points against the Sun in their last matchup, but Seattle ultimately lost the game 79-85. Connecticut is more well-rounded, and after coming off back-to-back losses versus the league’s two best teams, the Sun will enjoy a nice respite against the lowly Seattle Storm’s horrendous defense. Connecticut is favored so heavily for a reason, and they will not disappoint on Thursday.
Prediction: Connecticut Sun Win
