Connecticut Sun at Minnesota Lynx: Prediction, Player Prop, and Betting Tips

The early stages of the WNBA season are underway, and on Thursday, June 1st the winless Minnesota Lynx will take on the Eastern Conference leading Connecticut Sun (8:00 PM EST, Prime Video). Minnesota is sitting in last place in the West, while the Sun are riding high atop the East. Minnesota is a +7 point underdog, and the fact that they are at home doesn’t make a lick of difference, as the Lynx are 0-2 in their home arena. Minnesota has a chance if they limit the turnovers and look to get the ball down low, as the Lynx are not the best 3-point shooting team. Offensively, the Sun are not the best, but Connecticut plays lock down defense, and against a Minnesota side averaging less than 80-points a game, the Sun should come away with a win. 

The Connecticut Sun (-7; ML -350)

The Connecticut Sun are 4-1 (80%) through the first 5 games of the season. They are coming off an 81-78 home win over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday and are looking to build on their impressive start to the season. Tiffany Hayes led the Sun with 22 points on Tuesday, but DeWanna Bonner leads the team with 15.4 points per game. Connecticut is averaging 76.8 points per game, which is 8th amongst the league, but they allow just 75.0 opponent points per game, which ranks in the top-3. The Sun’s defense will carry them to victory over Minnesota on Thursday.    

The Minnesota Lynx (+7; ML +260)

The Minnesota Lynx are having a nightmare start to their 2023 campaign. They are 0-5 (0%) and are scraping the bottom of the barrel in the West. The Lynx are coming off a devastating 89-94 loss to the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, and although they had 4 different players with double-digit scoring figures, they still lost. Minnesota’s defense was nonexistent on Tuesday, but they are struggling in every game. The Lynx give up 87.6 opponent points per game, which is the 10th worst average in the league, and Minnesota has now played three-straight matchups where they gave up 90 or more points to the opposition. Unless the Lynx can figure it out on defense, they will continue to struggle, and they certainly won’t win on Thursday.

The Sun on the other hand play excellent defense, giving up just 75.0 points per game, the 3rd-best in the league. Connecticut is going to shut Minnesota down, as the Lynx don’t have the offensive firepower needed to overcome the Sun’s suffocating defense. These two are evenly matched on offense, but the Lynx have held just 1 opponent under 80 points this season, and I expect the Sun to command the game through all four quarters.
