dallas wings vs new york liberty

The WNBA season continues on Sunday, June 11th with a cross conference matchup between the Eastern Conference’s New York Liberty and the Western Conference’s Dallas Wings (1:00 PM EST, ABC/ESPN). The Liberty are 2nd in the East, and the Wings are 2nd in the West, making this a tantalizing matchup between two top-teams. New York is favored because they have a better record (1 game ahead of Dallas) and they get to play at home, where they have a 68.8% win-rate against the Wings. Dallas is 16-15 (51.6%) against New York all-time, but on the road, the Wings have a lowly 31.2% win-rate against the Liberty. Regardless, Sunday’s matchup will be a hotly contested affair between two postseason hopefuls.

The Dallas Wings (5-3)

The Dallas Wings are 5-3 (62.5%), putting them in 2nd-place in the West, 2.0 games behind the Las Vegas Aces. The Wings are coming off back-to-back victories over Phoenix, holding the Mercury under 80-points in both games. The Wings have gone over 80 points in 6 out of their 8 games and average the 2nd-most points per game (85.5) in the WNBA. Dallas is led by Arike Ogunbowale, who is averaging 22.4 points per game, followed closely by the 6’ 4” Satou Sabally, who is averaging 21.8 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Ogunbowale is coming off a 35-point performance on Friday, and Sabally recorded her 5th-straight double-double, garnering 17 points and 16 rebounds.

The New York Liberty (5-2)

The New York Liberty are 2nd in the East with a 5-2 (71.4%) record, 1.0 game behind the Connecticut Sun. The Liberty are coming off a 106-83 blowout victory over the Atlanta Dream on Friday, in the WNBA’s Commissioner’s Cup. New York is led by 6’ 4” Forward Breanna Stewart, who averages 23.9 points per game, but on Friday, the Liberty were led by superstar Sabrina Ionescu, who recorded an incredible 37-points off 61.5% shooting from 3-point range (8-13). It was a career high for the 25-year old Ionescu, who is averaging 15.7 points per game this season. New York will look to Ionescu and Stewart to match Dallas’ top-scorers on Sunday, in what is destined to be a high-scoring matchup.

Wings vs. Liberty Prediction

Take the Dallas Wings to beat the New York Liberty on Sunday. Historically, New York has had the advantage at home when they face Dallas, but after smoking the Phoenix Mercury in back-to-back games, the Wings have a lot of good momentum coming into this one. Dallas’ Natasha Howard, who is averaging 16.6 points per game for Dallas, will be the x-factor in this matchup. Howard had 22 points on Friday, and with teammate Satou Sabally likely to garner most of the Liberty’s defensive attention under the rim, Howard will have ample opportunity to score. New York will put up a valiant effort, but with Ogunbowale, Sabally, and Howard all posting double-digit scoring figures, take the Dallas Wings to steal a win on the road.
