NFL WEEK 1 LINES 2021: BETTING ODDS | OSB
NFL Week 1 Odds
The NFL season is right around the corner, and with odds for the first slate of games being available to the public, it’s time to break down who is on upset alert, which games are traps, and our locks.
Upset Alert
The name that headlines our upset alert section is the New England Patriots as BetOnline has the odds at (-110) for -2.5 New England Patriots vs the Miami Dolphins, who are receiving two and a half points. As we saw with this Patriots team last year, this is not the Patriots’ team of the past that can dominantly bring the ball down the field and nearly score on every drive. With Cam Newton likely to be under center week one, the team is going to revert back to last season’s “run until you can’t anymore” playstyle, and the Dolphins defense is more than capable of taking care of this rushing attack. With plus money, the Dolphins look like a steal in this game and should provide great value for bettors.
Trap City
The Chicago Bears vs Los Angeles Rams game has an unusually large seven-point spread for a week one contest. Bookmakers are likely hoping that the public sees Justin Fields as an immediate upgrade over Mitch Trubisky and takes the team to at least cover in this ball game. However, there are more than a few reasons that Rams should dominate this contest.
Last year, their defense was the best in the league, led by two juggernauts in Jalen Ramsay and Aaron Donald. If Justin Fields, or even worse Andy Dalton, is set to take their first real NFL snaps against a defense as prolific as the Rams, it will most likely result in a nightmare. Matthew Stafford is looking to do big things this year with Los Angeles and should be a huge upgrade over the dull and boring Jared Goff. Los Angeles Rams (-7) is the play.
Lock Of The Century
It may be Trevor Lawrence’s first snaps in the NFL, but that does not matter when you are facing a team as bad as the Texans. I mean, just take a look at this team’s defensive numbers last season as the squad ranked 30th in opposing yards per game, 27th in points per game allowed, and had the fewest takeaways in all of the National Football League last year.
This team is super bad, and they basically did absolutely nothing to fix this issue during the offseason. With likely no Watson on the field, Tyrod Taylor is set to be the starter, and we all know that he is a less than ideal man to be running the offense for a professional football team. Trevor Lawrence has James Robinson, Travis Etienne, D.J. Chark Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., and youngster Laviska Shenault Jr. all at his disposal while the Texans have a three-headed monster of Phillip Lindsay, Mark Ingram, and David Johnson set to head the backfield. The talent disparity between these teams is too significant to take the Texans seriously, and with a mere 2.5 point spread in favor of the Jaguars, it should be the easiest bet to cash all of that Sunday.
