NBA PLAYOFF BETTING — BROOKLYN NETS AT MILWAUKEE BUCKS: GAME 3
NBA Playoff Betting — Brooklyn Nets At Milwaukee Bucks: Game 3
When you can only hit 25% of your three-pointers over two games, and you’re a team that relies on long-distance shooting, you’re going to have a problem. And that is just what the Milwaukee Bucks are facing as they are down 2-0 to the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA’s Eastern Conference semi-finals.
Game 3 takes place at the Fiserv Forum at 7:30 PM ET on Thursday. And if you are a customer at BetOnline, you’re going to find a number of intriguing props on the game – hundreds of them, in fact – when you go into the sportsbook and click the red “+” button to the right of the game. There is some good news; a glimmer of hope, if you will, for the Bucks. James Harden, who has done such a good job running the floor game for the Nets after coming over from Houston, has to sit out for the second straight game with a hamstring issue. He started Game 1, but lasted only 43 seconds before having to leave for the locker room.
The Nets have done a tremendous job picking up the slack, and that includes hitting a lot of threes. Joe Harris was the best in the NBA at it this season, and he’s kept true to form, making 50% of his attempts (8 of 16).
Brooklyn’s done pretty well on the defensive end too. Milwaukee has made just 14 of 57 from beyond the arc, and Giannis Antetokounmpo has missed eight of his ten free throws, as a timer, the Nets turned on (in the NBA, you have to shoot within ten seconds) has apparently made him uncomfortable.
The Bucks are favored to get back into this series, according to the NBA playoff odds at BetOnline:
Milwaukee Bucks -3 (-108)
Brooklyn Nets +3 (-112)
Over 235 points -110
Under 235 points -110
The Nets have had role players step up in a big way in Harden’s absence. Landry Shamet, Mike James, and Bruce Brown combined to make eight of 17 treys in the first two games.
And Blake Griffin, who has been more than serviceable since being signed as a free agent, hit four triples in Game 1. He’s done pretty well, with 25 points and 22 rebounds. That’s a big bonus, and they can obviously afford to play him at center, since his opposite number, Brook Lopez, is not overly physical.
The Bucks are getting awful shooting from Khris Middleton (30.2%) and they’re using PJ Tucker as a shooting guard. Are they due for something better? Milwaukee took more shots than anybody in the NBA this season, and they prefer a faster pace, but the Nets slowed them to a crawl in Game 2 (Pace figure of 92.8) and pummeled them 125-86. The margin was 24 points at the half. Clearly, Mike Budenholzer didn’t have his team ready to play.
But if you know anything about Budenholzer, you know he’s a lot better than that. We don’t have much doubt that Giannis can post some numbers, but he’s got to get more out of Middleton and the people on his bench, who got just 17 points in Game 1, when there was something to be contested.
Despite 6-for-30 from the arc in Game 1 and eight misses in 19 free throws, the Bucks lost that contest by just seven points. They’ll try to throw that second result out. But there is an upside to be had, and they should come out with some resolve for Game 3. This might be a good situation for them.
