Edmonton Oilers at Los Angeles Kings: Round 1, Game 3
By Sam Batz
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are fully underway and on Friday, April 21st the Edmonton Oilers will travel to Southern California to face the Los Angeles Kings in Game 3 of their Round 1 series (10:00 PM EST, TNT/ESPN+). The Series is tied 1-1, with the Kings taking Game 1 and the Oilers securing Game 2. It’s been a thrilling series so far with lots of goals and plenty of opportunities. Game 1 ended 4-3 in a rousing overtime victory for Los Angeles, where the Kings scored 3 goals in the 3rd period to tie the game, while Game 2 ended 4-2 in favor of Edmonton, who put 2 away in the 3rd to secure the win. The Oiler are -1.5 goal favorites once again, while the Kings will look to upset Edmonton for a second time this series.
The Edmonton Oilers (-155)
The Oilers finished 2nd in the Pacific Division with a 50-23-9 (109 pts) record, clinching the playoffs for a 4th straight season. Edmonton has a 61% chance to make it past the First Round, but the Kings aren’t making it easy. The Oilers have the best offensive attack in the NHL, yet somehow Los Angeles has kept pace. Edmonton has 7 total goals through the first 2 games, and the Kings have 6. Connor McDavid, Edmonton’s top scorer and the NHL’s best player, is goalless thus far, recording just 1 assist against the Kings, and the Oilers will need him to step it up if they are going to win on the road in Game 3.
The Los Angeles Kings (+130)
The LA Kings finished the regular season at 47-25-10 (104 pts), which was good enough for 3rd place in the Pacific, and their second consecutive trip to the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Kings pulled the short straw, and are facing the top-scoring team in the league Round 1. LA shocked the Oilers with their Game 1 upset, but due to a lack of intensity on the Power Play, the Kings dropped Game 2. They scored 2 goals in the 2nd period, but were shutout in the 1st and 3rd, leaving room for Edmonton to steal the win and even the series. Los Angeles needs to take advantage of their time on the Power Play in order to keep pace with an explosive Oilers offense in Game 3.

Oilers vs. Kings: Game Changers
Edmonton Oilers
- Connor McDavid is being called the “new face of the NHL” and for good reason. He led in goals (64), assists (89), and points (153). McDavid has not scored this postseason.
- Leon Draisaitl is leading the Oilers with 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists) against the Kings, and is an essential part of Edmonton’s attack when McDavid draws the opposing defenses attention
- Stuart Skinner has been in goal for the Oilers in both postseason games and is 1-1, averages 2.78 GA/G, and has a 89.8% SV%
Los Angeles Kings
- Anze Kopitar leads the Kings with 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) against the Oilers and scored the tying goal in Game 1 to send it to overtime
- Adrian Kempe led the Kings with 41 goals during the regular season, and leds LA once again as the only players with 2 goals in the playoffs
- Joonas Korpisalo is the Kings preferred Goaltender. Against the Oilers, he is 1-1, averages 2.83 GA/G, and has a 92.1% SV%
Oilers vs. Kings Prediction: Game 3
Take the Edmonton Oilers to win Game 3. Los Angeles had played them tough through the first two games, but the Oilers offense will come alive in Game 3. Connor McDavid will notch his first goal of these playoffs and the Kings won’t be able to keep up. Edmonton averaged nearly 4 goals per game during the regular season, which is why many are picking them to go to the Finals. It will be a close game, as these two are bitter rivals and LA won’t want to fall to the Oilers in back-to-back playoffs, but Edmonton will take Game 3.
Prediction: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-155) by the Over (6.5)
