COLLEGE BASKETBALL BETTING UPDATE- JAN. 22
There is a new No. 1 team in the country in both the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll heading into this week’s college basketball betting action at BetAnySports. The SEC’s Tennessee Volunteers have turned a fast start out of the gate into a straight-up 16-1 record at the midway point of the season.
With a perfect 5-0 SU start in conference play, they have moved to the top of the list in each national poll. The Volunteers did fail to cover as 13-point home favorites in Saturday’s 71-68 victory against Alabama, but they were able to cover against the spread in their first four SEC games. They will be on the road this Wednesday night against Vanderbilt ahead of a nonconference tilt against the Big 12’s West Virginia Mountaineers this Saturday.
The ACC’s Duke Blue Devils are now ranked No. 2 in both polls at 15-2 SU and they have gone 10-7 ATS on BetAnySports closing line. The previous week was quite the roller-coaster ride with a stunning 95-91 overtime loss to Syracuse as 17-point home favorites followed by Saturday’s huge 72-70 win at home against rival Virginia as 3.5-point favorites.Duke is 4-1 SU in ACC play with a 2-3 record ATS.
Despite the loss to Duke, Virginia climbed to No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25. The Cavaliers were the top-ranked team in the Coaches Poll and they dropped two spots to third. They are 16-1 SU with a profitable 14-3 record ATS. After covering in Saturday’s loss, Virginia has gone a perfect 8-0 ATS in its last eight games with the total going OVER in three of its last four outings. The Cavaliers return to action on Tuesday as heavy 24-point home favorites against Wake Forest. The total line at BetAnySports is set at 132.
Rounding out the new top five in the AP rankings are the West Coast Conference’s Gonzaga Bulldogs at 18-2 SU (14-6 ATS) and the Big Ten’s Michigan Wolverines at 17-1 SU and 9-9 ATS.
The Coaches Poll has the Bulldogs at No. 4 followed by the Michigan State Spartans as the other power team in the Big Ten.
The Spartans improved to 17-2 SU and 15-4 ATS with Monday’s 68-55 romp over Maryland as 8.5-point home favorites. They remain ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25.
