The UEFA Champions League is the biggest tournament in European soccer. The grueling season-long competition pits Europe’s best clubs against each other, featuring matchups that would never happen outside the Champions League. This prestigious tournament began in 1955 as the European Cup, but in 1992 UEFA changed the name to what we know today, and thus the Champions League was born. The tournament has gone through several iterations over the decades, with the most recent change occurring in 2024. The new format will see more games, 189 in total, with a revamped group stage. For a more detailed explanation of the Champions League’s new format, click here.
The Champions League is where the heavyweight clubs of Europe come together to duke it out, and in this year’s semi-final we have two teams that fit the bill: France’s PSG and Germany’s Dortmund. The winner of the Champions League is hailed as the best club in the world, and with such a vaunted title on the line, these late stage matchups often lead to the best soccer a fan could ask for. PSG and Dortmund are fighting for a spot in the Final, and with the first-leg already in the books, this Tuesday’s must-watch matchup will determine a Champions League finalist.
PSG comes in favored (-220) over Dortmund (+550), but odds can change quickly. Stay up-to-date by visiting OSB’s odds page, where you’ll find the latest spread, money lines, and O/U totals. PSG vs. Dortmund Head-to-Head History
Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final showdown will mark the 8th meeting between PSG and Dortmund on the European stage. Neither side can boast any real head-to-head superiority, as they each have two wins apiece with three ties on the record (2-2-3). In the First-Leg of the semi-final Dortmund beat PSG 1-0, keeping the Parisians off the scoreboard for the first time in the tournament. PSG and Dortmund were in the same group, Group F, which Dortmund won. PSG beat Dortmund 2-0 in the first matchup, only to tie 1-1 in the second. Tuesday’s contest will be the 4th matchup of the competition between PSG and Dortmund, but none more meaningful than this.
PSG vs. Dortmund Best Player Prop
Julian Brandt (Dortmund); Anytime Goalscorer (+425)
Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt is poised for a big 2nd leg matchup with PSG. Brandt was confident and controlled in the 1st leg, managing the midfield and providing a steady head as the game ramped up. The 2nd leg will be even more intense and Dortmund will need Brandt to be the guiding hand, but the 28-year old German national will be up to the task. He recorded 3 shots against PSG in the 1st leg, and while none went in, he came very close more than once. Brandt has just 2 goals in the Champions League, but against a disjointed PSG defense, Brandt could sneak one through, and at his current value of +425, I’ll take my chances for a Julian Brandt goal.
PSG vs. Dortmund Prediction
Dortmund held their own in the 1st leg but PSG will come roaring back in the 2nd to take the lead on aggregate, punching their ticket to the Champions League final. Dortmund managed to hold PSG scoreless for the first time in the tournament, but if you ask me the German side was very lucky not to concede. PSG hit the post twice on one attack alone, had 58% possession, and drew 11 fouls. The 1st leg was also a home game for Dortmund, a notoriously hostile environment for visitors thanks to the imposing “yellow wall” made up of rapid Dortmund supporters, who will now be supporting their club from their couches. PSG is much better at home, posting just 1 home loss on the season (9-6-1), and beating Dortmund 2-0 earlier in the competition at the Parc des Princes.
