PREVIEW AND PREDICTION FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 2015 – ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE: ARSENAL VS LIVERPOOL

The Premier League returns to action this Saturday, April 4, with one of the biggest rivalry games of English football, as Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium. These are two excellent teams battling for a place in the Champions League next season, in one of the most interesting and exciting races for the Premier League’s top four of the last decade.

The Gunners have won their last 8 Premier League home games and have kept clean sheets in 6 of those games.

After a disappointing start of the season, which had some fans asking (once again!) for the departure of Arséne Wenger, the Gunners have rapidly climbed the league table and are now fighting with Manchester City and Manchester United for second place. Knocked out of the Champions League tournament by heavy underdogs Monaco, the Gunners can now concentrate their efforts solely on the remaining 8 Premier League games and try to finish strong. Arsenal head into this match-up 3rd in the league, six points ahead of Liverpool, and a win against the Reds could see them move right into second place, as Manchester City play only on Monday.

Sitting in the middle of the league table for the most part of the season, Liverpool are now in the mix for a Champions League spot after a run of 13 games without tasting defeat (10 wins and 3 draws). But Manchester United have put an end to that impressive record last time out as they defeated the Reds 2-1 at Anfield Road, and Liverpool now sit 5th in the table, 5 points behind the Red Devils, fully aware of the fact that any more slip-ups in the remaining 8 games could cost them a return to Champions League action next season. Against Arsenal, Brendan Rodgers won’t have at his disposal Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel, who were both sent off in that defeat against United. And if Gerrard’s leadership and experience is very important for this team, Skrtel’s absence could be particularly significant on a defense that hasn’t allowed a single goal in the last 6 straight games on the road.

The Gunners would be very close to securing a presence in the Champions League for the 18th consecutive year with a win in this game. Liverpool are already five points behind 4th placed Manchester United which means that they can’t afford to lose this game against Arsenal. This is a match-up that traditionally is very productive in terms of goals and with both sides looking for the win, we should fully expect that also in this one. Arsenal have looked particularly confident in their last games and the plethora of options that Wenger has at his disposal up front, something that Brendan Rodgers has been struggling with all season long, could prove to be the deciding factor in this encounter. With their eyes on second place and facing a team that will be missing some important key players, the Gunners should come out on top and grab the three points.

Our Prediction: Arsenal to Win BetAnySports Odds: -119
