MLS PREVIEW AND PREDICTION – FC DALLAS VS SEATTLE SOUNDERS – SATURDAY, MARCH 28

In a rematch of last season’s Western Conference semifinal, the Seattle Sounders travel to North Texas on Saturday, March 28, to face the undefeated FC Dallas, at Toyota Stadium. This game will be a very interesting early season test for two teams with strong playoff ambitions.

The Seattle Sounders won two of the three league match-ups between these two sides last season.

After solid back-to-back wins at home to kickoff their 2015 campaign, Dallas traveled to the east coast to face the always tough Philadelphia Union where they added three more points to their outstanding start of the season, a result that makes Dallas FC the only team in the MLS this season with maximum points. This is only the second time in Dallas’ history and the first since 1998 that the team opens the season with three straight wins. And not only have they been able to create chances and score goals but their defense has also been superb, conceding only one goal in three games so far. After seeing their 2014 season end at the hands of the Seattle Sounders just a few months ago, this Dallas side is certainly very motivated for this game next Saturday. With some important players on international duty, including the team’s top scorer Panamanian striker Blas Perez, Dallas coach Óscar Pareja will be forced to make some adjustments. Special attention must be given to the defensive side of the ball, as Dallas faces a Sounders team that has scored five goals in their first two games of the season.

The Seattle Sounders return to MLS action following two homes games, each with a different outcome, a 3-0 win over the New England Revolution in their opening game and a 3-2 defeat against the San Jose Earthquakes two weeks ago. The Sounders travel to Dallas for their first game of the season away from home and will be without team captain Clint Dempsey because of a hamstring problem and also Guatemalan star Marco Pappa on international duty. The Sounders have lost only one of their last five meetings with Dallas and will be eager to grab the three points on Saturday, thus closing the gap on their opponents and getting straight back in the mix.

Without losing any of the two games in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Sounders in the 2014 playoffs, Dallas was knocked out of the competition on away goals, something that is certainly still fresh in the minds of every Dallas player and fan. With a lot of pieces missing from both sides, it will be particularly interesting to see which team adapts better to the circumstances and makes the better adjustments. Playing at home, FC Dallas will be looking to not only avenge last season’s playoff result, but also to stay undefeated in the league this season and, at the same time, open the gap to the Sounders, a very strong title contender.
