The Stanley Cup Finals continue on Tuesday, June 13th with Game 5 between the Florida Panthers and the Vegas Golden Knights (8:00 PM EST, TNT). The Golden Knights have a commanding 3-1 lead over the Panthers, and with a victory on Tuesday, Vegas will be crowned NHL Champions. However, don’t count Florida out just yet, as they are no stranger to the 1-3 deficit. The Panthers came roaring back to win their First Round series after the Boston Bruins held a 3-1 lead, and if Florida could do that against Boston, it’s plausible they could do it again against Vegas. The Golden Knights have been brilliant this postseason, and enter Game 5 as -1.5 goal favorites, but the Panthers aren’t out of this just yet, and could surprise us once again in a must win matchup for Florida.
The Florida Panthers (+1.5; ML +150)
After an incredible postseason run to reach the Finals, the Panthers are in trouble. Florida is being given just an 8% chance to win the Stanley Cup Finals, and a 36% chance to win Game 5. The odds are certainly stacked against them, but after a turbulent season, the Panthers have proven their resilience time and again. After barely making the playoffs, and entering the tournament as a Wildcard with the lowest regular-season point total (92) of the 8 qualifying teams, no one was giving the Panthers much of a chance. Florida has been the underdog in 17 out of their 20 postseason games, but are 13-7 (65.0%) in the playoffs, and with their backs against the wall in a must-win Finals matchup, don’t be surprised if the Panthers pull off another improbable postseason victory.
The Vegas Golden Knights (-1.5; ML -180)
The Vegas Golden Knights have proven they are the best in the West, and with a win on Tuesday, they will be crowned the best in the NHL. With a 3-1 series lead, the Golden Knights are highly likely (92% win probability) to collect the young franchises first ever Stanley Cup title. Vegas is now 15-6 (71.4%) after their 3-2 victory over Florida in Game 4, and are projected to win Game 5, with their moneyline priced at -180 and a win-probability of 64%. The Golden Knights are 8-3 (72.7%) in the playoffs, but with the status of Game 5 favorites also comes the added pressure of expectation. A 3-1 lead is a great place to be, but it also means the Golden Knights have a lot to lose; whether or not the added pressure proves to be too much for Vegas to handle remains to be seen.

Take the Florida Panthers to beat the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 on Tuesday. I don’t recommend taking the Panthers to win the Stanley Cup, but they will cut the deficit after Game 5. The Golden Knights are 8-3-0 at home, but the Panthers can match that, as they are 8-3-0 on the road. It will be a tightly contested matchup, but with the added motivation of it being a must-win for Florida, the Panthers will play as if their season depends on them winning, because it quite literally does. The Panthers have been here before and know what it takes to stave off elimination, giving them an unexpected edge against Vegas.
