New York Rangers at New Jersey Devils: Game 2
By Sam Batz
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway and continue on Thursday, April 20th with the New York Rangers taking on the New Jersey Devils in Game 2 of their Round 1 series (7:30 PM EST, TBS). New York thrashed New Jersey in Game 1, winning 5-1 and securing a 1-0 series lead on the road. The Devils are looking to bounce back after their poor showing on Tuesday. Despite the blowout victory, the Rangers are +1.5 goal underdogs for Game 2, with a moneyline priced at +110. New Jersey is a -1.5 goal favorite with a moneyline priced at -131.
The New York Rangers (+110)
The Rangers went 47-22-13 (107 pts), which was good enough to qualify for the postseason for the 2nd consecutive year. In 2022, the Rangers were bounced in the Conference Finals by the Tampa Bay Lightning after starting the series with a 2-0 lead. New York hasn’t been to a Stanley Cup Final since 2014, and the Rangers haven’t won The Cup since 1994. According to FiveThirtyEight, New York is favored over New Jersey to make it past Round 1, but are unlikely to recapture the glory of 1994. But if the Rangers can repeat their Game 1 performance, where they had 9 different players record at least 1 point, then they will be one step closer to The Cup.
The New Jersey Devils (-131)
The Jersey Devils had a great season and are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They finished the season with a 52-22-8 (112 pts) record and were 2nd in the Metro Division and 3rd in the East. Unfortunately, Game 1 was not the glorious return to the postseason the Devils were hoping for. Jack Hughes was the only player to record a point, and New Jersey’s Goaltender, Vitek Vanecek, posted a lowly 81.8% save rate. If New Jersey has any hope of beating the Rangers in Game 2, they need to play more aggressively, and limit New York’s second and third chances around the goal.

Rangers vs. Devils Prediction: Game 2
Take the New York Rangers to win Game 2. The Rangers are brimming with confidence after their Game 1 blowout victory, while New Jersey is reeling. New York is more experienced and has greater depth than the Devils, who rely too heavily on their 2019 No. 1 overall draft pick, Jack Hughes. Hughes is tough to contain, but when he is bottled up, the Devils struggle to create opportunities. The Rangers can take advantage of this, and will take a 2-0 lead before heading back to New York for Games 3 and 4.
Prediction: New York Rangers Moneyline (+110)
