Vegas Golden Knights at Edmonton Oilers: Game 3 Prediction and Betting Tips
By Sam Batz
The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue on Monday, May 8th with an exciting Game 3 matchup between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers (8:30 PM EST, ESPN). This Second Round series is all tied up at 1-1. The Golden Knights took Game 1 6-4 in a high-scoring series opener. The Oilers then ran the Golden Knights out of the arena, winning Game 2 5-1. The Oilers only had 1 more shot on goal then the Knights, but were much more clinical in front of goal. The Golden Knights enter Game 3 as +1.5 goal underdogs with a moneyline priced at +150, while the Oilers are favored in their first home game of the series, with a moneyline priced at -180.
The Vegas Golden Knights (+1.5; ML +150)
The Golden Knights entered the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the best team in the West. Through 7 postseason games, the Knights are 5-2. They made quick work of Winnipeg, beating the Jets in 5 games, and had won 5-in-a-row before getting crushed in Game 2 against the Oilers. Right Wing Mark Stone leads the Golden Knights with 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) and Center Chandler Stephenson leads Vegas with 5 goals in 7 games. The Golden Knights are averaging 3.71 goals for and 3.29 goals against in the playoffs, but have given up 9 goals in 2 games against Edmonton.
The Edmonton Oilers (-1.5; ML -180)
The Oilers are 5-3 through 8 games in the postseason. They are averaging 4.25 goals per game, the highest average of any team in the playoffs. Edmonton tallied an NHL-high 325 goals during the regular season, and have hit their stride in the playoffs, recording at least 4 goals in their last 5 games. Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl leads the team with 17 points (13 goals, 4 assists) and the best player of the regular season, Connor McDavid, has 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists). The Oilers have a 62% chance to reach the Conference Finals, and are looking to take the series lead at home on Monday.

Golden Knights vs. Oilers: Game 3 Prediction
Take the Oilers to win Game 3 over Vegas. These two sides employ very different strategies. The Golden Knights rely on their depth, while the Oilers rely on their stars. Vegas has 8 players with 5 or more points, while Edmonton has 3 players with double-digit points. But Edmonton’s reliance on Draisaitl and McDavid has worked, as they have won 4 of their last 5 postseason matchups, while scoring 25 total goals in that same stretch.
The Golden Knights were great on the road this season, winning 63.4% of their away games. The Oilers were not as good at home as you may think, winning just over 55% of their games in Edmonton. But that was the regular season, and in the playoffs it’s not about what you’ve done, it’s about what you can do on the big day. The Oilers have more postseason experience and have been deadly on the power play (14 PPG, PP% 56.0; best in the playoffs). The Golden Knights have a tough test ahead of them, and will be hard pressed to keep the Oilers away from their net, which is why I’m going with Edmonton in Game 3.
Prediction: Edmonton Oilers Cover The Spread (-1.5)
