Seattle’s Even With Defending Champs | Kraken vs Avalanche | OSB
Kraken at Avalanche: Game 5 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips
By Sam Batz
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are well underway, and on Wednesday, April 26th they continue with the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Seattle Kraken for Game 5 (9:30 PM EST, ESPN). The series is tied 2-2 after the Kraken took Games 1 and 4, and the Avalanche took Games 2 and 3. Both Seattle and Colorado are averaging 3.0 goals per game this series, but Game 3 was the only match that went over the total. Every game has been decided by a 1 or 2 goal margin, and this series has been thrilling. The Avalanche are -1.5 goal favorites with a moneyline priced at -196, while the Kraken are +1.5 goal underdogs with a moneyline set at +160.
The Seattle Kraken (+1.5; ML +160)
The Kraken entered the series as the lower seed but are not showing any signs of weakness. They kept up with the defending champs on offense, matching them goal-for-goal, and on Monday, tied the series up 2-2 after an incredible OT victory. Seattle is holding their own in the franchises first Stanley Cup Playoff appearance, but are being given a slim chance (25% odds) to advance to the next round. Many didn’t think they would play this well against Colorado though, and Seattle is playing with a lot of confidence. They out-scored the Avalanche by 15 goals during the regular season, and are hoping their fast-paced offensive attack will lead to another victory in Game 5.
The Colorado Avalanche (-1.5; ML -196)
The Colorado Avalanche are this year’s defending champs. They won their third Stanley Cup trophy in 2022, and have a 14% chance to repeat as champions. But the Kraken are making it difficult, and the Avalanche are facing the very real possibility of being bounced from the playoffs in the First Round for the first time since 2018. Colorado’s defense, which was supposed to be their advantage against Seattle, has allowed 11 different Kraken players to score at least 1 goal. The Avalanche are back in Colorado for Game 5 where they won 53.7% of their games during the regular season, and will try to fend off the hungry Kraken.

Kraken vs. Avalanche: Player Props
Seattle Kraken
- Justin Schultz (Defender): Over 0.5 Points
Shultz is leading the Kraken with 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) in the playoffs. He is averaging 1.25 points per game against Colorado. In Game 4, he recorded 1 point from 1 power-play assists and I expect him to keep the points coming. With Seattle’s top goal scorer Jared McCann Out, Shultz has stepped up, and is having an excellent First Round series.
Colorado Avalanche
- Nathan MacKinnon (Center): Over 1.5 Points (-135)
MacKinnon led the Avs with 111 points (42 goals, 69 assists) during the regular season. He had the 5th-most points and 5th-most assists of any player. In the playoffs, he has recorded 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 4 games. Colorado needs MacKinnon to step-up in Game 5 and I predict he will record over 1.5 points, whether that’s from goals or assists, the Avs won’t care as long as he is heavily involved on offense.
Kraken vs. Avalanche Game 5 Prediction
Take the Colorado Avalanche to win Game 5. I expect it to be another close game, but because of the Avs experience in the postseason, I have confidence Colorado will get the job done. They know what it takes to win in pressure situations. Seattle’s Jared McCann is out, but so is Colorado’s defender Cale Makar. It’s been a brutally aggressive series, but if Colorado can limit the Penalty Minutes and stay patient around the net, Seattle’s inferior defense will stumble, leaving room for the Avalanche to bury them.
Prediction: Colorado Avalanche Moneyline (-196)
