Rangers Are On a Goal Scoring Rampage | Rangers vs Oilers | OSB
New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers
By Sam Batz
The New York Rangers make their way up to our neighbors in the north on Friday, Feb. 17th to take on the Edmonton Oilers (9:00 PM EST, ESPN+). It’s the second meeting of the season between the Rangers and Oilers. Edmonton won the first matchup 4-3, but have two less wins than the Rangers on the season. The Rangers and Oilers are both in 6th place in their respective conferences. New York will look to extend their winning streak, while the Oilers need to get back in the win column after dropping their last two.
New York Rangers Breakdown
The Rangers have played 54 games and are 32-14-8. They are currently in playoff-position as the 6th place team in the Eastern Conference. New York has won 6 consecutive games, which currently leads the NHL as the longest winning-streak. They are 8-1-1 in their last 10, scoring 4.3 goals per game and accumulating 17 points over that same stretch. The Rangers are on fire, scoring an incredible 6 goals in each of their last 3 games. They are coming off a 6-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, and will look to score another barrage of goals in their next match against Edmonton. Left Wing Artemi Panarin leads the Rangers with 62 points off of 44 assists, and 18 goals. Center Mika Zibanejad has scored the most goals (29) for the Rangers, and has scored 5 goals against the Oilers in his career.
Edmonton Oilers Breakdown
The Oilers are 30-19-6 through 55 games this season and are currently in 6th place in the Western Conference. Edmonton is 6-1-3 in their last 10 games, but have lost their last 2 matchups. They lost 2-6 on Sunday against the Montreal Canadiens, and then followed that up with a heartbreaking 4-5 loss, which ended in a shootout, against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. The Oilers will look to get back on track against New York on Friday, and will rely heavily on their skating, which leads the NHL with 3.73 goals per game. Edmonton Center Connor McDavid is having an excellent year, not only leading his team, but the entire league with 42 goals, 57 assists, and 99 points. Fellow Center, Leon Draisaitl, is in second place behind only his teammate McDavid, with 80 points off of 31 goals and 49 assists.

Prediction
I would take the New York Rangers in this one. Edmonton’s goaltending ranks in the bottom-half of the league, and the Rangers are on an absolute scoring rampage right now, averaging 5.4 goals through their last 5 games. The Oilers defense isn’t strong enough to compete with the Rangers in their current form. Edmonton is led by a pair of excellent Centers (Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl) but the Rangers defense is tough to beat, as they have allowed just 143 goals this season, the 6th best total in the NHL. Additionally, the Oilers are not their best at home. They have won just 46.4% of their games in Edmonton, while the Rangers have won 64.0% of their away games. It should be an exciting, high-scoring matchup, but I predict the Rangers will come out on top and secure their seventh consecutive victory.
- Prediction: New York Rangers Cover and Over 6.5 goals.
