New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers

By Sam Batz

rangers vs oilers

The New York Rangers make their way up to our neighbors in the north on Friday, Feb. 17th to take on the Edmonton Oilers (9:00 PM EST, ESPN+). It’s the second meeting of the season between the Rangers and Oilers. Edmonton won the first matchup 4-3, but have two less wins than the Rangers on the season. The Rangers and Oilers are both in 6th place in their respective conferences. New York will look to extend their winning streak, while the Oilers need to get back in the win column after dropping their last two.

They lost 2-6 on Sunday against the Montreal Canadiens, and then followed that up with a heartbreaking 4-5 loss, which ended in a shootout, against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. Prediction

I would take the New York Rangers in this one. Edmonton’s goaltending ranks in the bottom-half of the league, and the Rangers are on an absolute scoring rampage right now, averaging 5.4 goals through their last 5 games. The Oilers defense isn’t strong enough to compete with the Rangers in their current form. Edmonton is led by a pair of excellent Centers (Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl) but the Rangers defense is tough to beat, as they have allowed just 143 goals this season, the 6th best total in the NHL. Additionally, the Oilers are not their best at home. They have won just 46.4% of their games in Edmonton, while the Rangers have won 64.0% of their away games. It should be an exciting, high-scoring matchup, but I predict the Rangers will come out on top and secure their seventh consecutive victory.

  • Prediction: New York Rangers Cover and Over 6.5 goals.
