Toronto Maple Leafs at Nashville Predators

The Toronto Maple Leafs travel to Tennessee to take on the Nashville Predators on Sunday, March 26th (6:00 PM EST, NHL NET). The Maple Leafs are 14-13-1-1 against the Predators all-time and lead 1-0 in the series this season. Toronto defeated Nashville 2-1 back in January when the Maple Leafs were -178 point favorites and the Predators were +150 point underdogs. Toronto is favored once again and will be expected to win on Sunday, sweeping Nashville 2-0 in the regular season. However, Nashville are fighting for their postseason lives and will enter Sunday’s matchup ready to defend their home arena where they win 52.9% of the time. 

Toronto Maple Leafs Destined For Playoffs

The Maple Leafs have not officially clinched a spot in the postseason, mostly thanks to the Tampa Bay Lightning who continue to hound Toronto, but according to FiveThirtyEight, the Maple Leafs are extremely unlikely to miss the playoffs. With a record of 43-19-9 and 95 points, Toronto is 2nd in the Atlantic Division and 4th in the Eastern Conference. They went 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and are coming off a blowout win over the Florida Panthers. The Maple Leafs scored 5 or more goals in 4 of their last 7 and allowed just 2 goals against in 3 of their last 5. As a favorite to not only make the playoffs but to potentially make a run for The Cup, the Maple Leafs will be expected to win on Sunday. 

Nashville Predators Remain In The Hunt

The Predators are hanging on to a slim margin when it comes to their playoffs chances (23%) but when there’s a will there’s a way. Nashville is 36-26-8 with 80 points, which puts them in 5th in the Central Division and 9th in the Western Conference. The Predators are the underdogs for Sunday’s matchup, but as the underdogs have garnered 41 points. They narrowly lost to the Maple Leafs in the first matchup, and in their last 10 games, went 5-3-2. Nashville is coming off back-to-back wins and will look to continue that momentum which could potentially carry them into the postseason for the 9th consecutive season.

The Maple Leafs have scored 49 more goals than Nashville, as well as have prevented 10 less goals against. The Maple Leafs have a trio of goal scorers that can light up the goal of any opponent and the Predators don’t have the strength on defense to keep Toronto at bay. Their first matchup ended 2-1, and I expect Sunday to be another close game, but the Maple Leafs will once again come out on top.
