Penguins need Crosby
Not only was one days night’s final score not ideal for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the one thing that could have been worse than a loss happened. On Wednesday night, in game five of this series, after a debatably legal hit from Jacob Trouba of the Rangers, Sidney Crosby had to exit the game and did not play the final 26 minutes. Because of losing their best player, the Penguins saw their two goal lead turn into a two goal deficit. Crosby is now being evaluated for an upper body injury and his status for tonight is highly in doubt.
As is the case for Crosby’s status, the ability of the Pittsburgh Penguins to close out the series in game 6 in New York, is also doubtful. Igor Shesterkin will once again be in goal for the Rangers, as he continues to try to atone for being yanked already twice in this series. The Rangers did look like the dominant team they were in the regular season in games 33 and 4 of this series where they allowed 14 goals in those two games, but game 5 was and will be a turning point for them, fuelled by knowing they are a better team than the Penguins are without Crosby.
