New York Rangers at New Jersey Devils: Game 7 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips
By Sam Batz
One of the most exciting games in the postseason is upon us. On Monday, May 1st the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils will face off in a winner-take-all Game 7 to decide the series (8:00 PM EST, ESPN). New York and New Jersey are all tied up 3-3 and this series has been thrilling. The Rangers took an early 2-0 lead, scoring 10 goals and allowing just 2 against. Then the Devils came roaring back, winning a pivotal Game 3 matchup in overtime, then going on to winning 3 straight to take a 3-2 lead. New York kept their season alive with a 5-2 win in Game 6, and now it all comes down to Game 7.
The New York Rangers (+1.5; ML +100)
The Rangers of New York are looking to qualify for their 2nd-consecutive Conference Semifinal. They came out strong against the Devils, using their size and experience to steal the first two games on the road in New Jersey. But after scoring a combined 10 goals in 2 games, the Rangers fell off the horse, and in Games 3-5, they scored just 2 goals and allowed 9 against. New York was shutout in Game 5 (0-4) for just the third time this season, but redeemed themselves with a Game 6 victory at home, forcing a Game 7. New York is averaging 2.83 GF/G and allowing 2.17 GA/G, and in all 3 wins recorded 5 goals in each, suggesting the Rangers will be focused on possession and offense, as opposed to parking the bus and letting the Devils come to them.
The New Jersey Devils (-1.5; ML -121)
The Jersey Devils are back in the playoffs after a 4-year hiatus. 2018 was the last time we saw the Devils in the postseason, but it was short lived, as they were bounced in the First Round by the Tampa Bay Lightning. New Jersey hasn’t made it past the First Round since 2012, when they actually made it all the way to the Finals, but lost to the LA Kings in 6. New Jersey is favored to win Game 7 and make it to the Conference Semifinal, but the Devils are averaging just 2.17 GF/G, the lowest average in the playoffs. New Jersey won 58.5% of their home games this season, but will need to channel their Game 5 defense in order to hold-off New York.

Rangers vs. Devils: Player Props
Artemi Panarin (Rangers Left Wing): Over 0.5 Points (-160)
Panarin has struggled on the stat sheet, recording just 2 points (0 goals, 2 assist) in this series. But the 31-year old out of the USSR is one of New York’s most experienced players. In his 8th season, Panarin has played 56 playoff games. His experience in high-pressure games will be vital, and the Rangers will feel comfortable letting him handle the puck as much as possible. Panarin will go over 0.5 points in Game 7.
Nico Hischier (Devils Center): Over 0.5 Assists (-110)
The Devils have the lowest point total (33) in the playoffs. Their offensive production has been lacking, but Nico Hischier has been a standout playmaker for New Jersey, despite the struggles. Hischier has 4 assists in 6 games and is likely to bag another in Game 7. He has the third most shots on the team, but has no qualms about laying the puck off for his teammates. Hischier is a young-talent and will try to make his mark in the first Game 7 of his career.
Rangers vs. Devils: Game 7 Prediction
Take the New York Rangers to win Game 7. New Jersey is a talented side, but they lack postseason experience. Their rookie Goaltender Akira Schmid has been a breath of fresh air for the Devils after dropping the first two games at home, but the Rangers exposed the rookie’s inexperience in Game 6, notching 5 goals against him. The magic, or adrenaline, or whatever you want to call it that Schmid brough to the Devils has worn off, and I don’t trust a rookie Goaltender in an elimination game. New York’s offense can be explosive, and if they get out to an early lead, the Devils will struggle to recover, and the Rangers will move on.
Prediction: New York Rangers Moneyline (+100)
